Mission 12 - minor things

Just finished Mission 12 - needless to say I had a blast!

I noticed during this mission a couple bugs - initially when Paco taxies, his wing (which is over swept) still cuts through one of the parked E2Ds. No biggie just little immersion breaking.
also, the other Cat on the left is parked in a way that its right wheel is almost off the carrier. Again, no biggie just thought would let you know. These might as well be DCS bugs.
On another note, those fast boats gave me a real hard time! Tried to get them in two runs and then on the third I got shot - my flight hydraulics lost pressure completely. Now this was interesting to me - the controls kept working fine, and the BiDi didn’t seem to be doing anything. This might be an F14 bug, as I was able to fly home without any issues and without any perceived abnormalities with the controls.
thank you again for this wonderful campaign!

Thanks, I'll try to rearrange that static. The wingsweep and such bugs are Tomcat related, these are not the result of something I did in the mission editor. ie. I can tell AI Tomcats to take off but how they sweep/ don't sweep their wings is totally out of my control.

Hey @Reflected, I'm sure this typo has probably been picked up before but I can't find it in the forum so just in case. Documentation for mission 12 has Paco briefing sqn comms on button 14, kneeboard in the brief has comms on button 13.

I've been holding with Paco above mother for nearly 30 min now, did I miss something I needed to do or a trigger possibly? (I've been on preset 13 in the front seat, if that helps)

How close did you get to Paco? The trigger is not dependent on how you launch.

@Reflected I could swear I got that close in my first attempt... I'm not sure if it matters but I rejoined on the outside wing of the turn... just now I used Shift+U to launch - which cues the glove images and voice recordings which is a nice plus - but after watching your video I joined on the inside of Paco's turn and he detected me pretty quickly -- I don't think I even got as close as I got on the outside of the turn?

Proceeding on with the mish now.... 😄

The zone is circular, only the distance matters. Good luck with the mission!

Thanks, it didn't go so well actually.

I did proceed to the island and got eyes on the boats, but had a snafu where first pass I didn't have ORD selected :(. After that, jester wasn't cooperating very well, the pod was pointed at the boats and I followed the cues/symbology but the bombs missed wildly.

After this, went with Paco to AAR. I was wayyyy above fuel ladder, so I quickly just hit F10 option to say complete. After Paco tanked, i got the message that he was kissing off the tanker, hammers switched to strike, then to button 1. Heard all that, but Paco never left formation with the tanker. Eventually I decided to head back to the Launch Point but couldn't find Mom anywhere.

I'm guessing I either missed a trigger, or that the magnetic variation/compass was not properly synced. (I noticed a 5 deg offset when jester was completing setup) Probably should have just hit the compass sync button and hoped for the best in flight? (I don't know of a RIO command to bring up the magvar on the TID, and didn't want to jump in the backseat and throw off something with the scripting)

Guess I'll be flying this one again sometime (I'm not really about using that skip button).

Hey @eLgargantuan did you do a quick start up or full one? At the start the ship turns,  If Jester starts the alignment during the turn it will whack out the alignment. If you do a full start up or wait till the turn is finished then you will find mother at the end.

You didn’t miss a trigger, DCS did. The new thing is that if your PC is not the strongest and/or you’re flying in VR, it’s too busy doing other calculations to realize and obey triggers and flags because ED put them pretty low on the priority list. It bothers me beyond words.

possibly the same issue caused Paco to orbit overhead forever before. It happens randomly.

shooting down the tanker is a stupid workaround but it helps sometimes.

the wps were messed either because of overg or you started the INS alignment while the ship was in turn (Heatblur bug)

Ah, good to know....

Today's attempt went better but still not ideal... I did have to shoot down the tanker to get Paco to fly home... I also waited for the boat to stop turning to begin startup/alignment, but at the very end I was still 60nm away from the WP when I found mom flying off Paco's wing. I overstressed the airframe >7.5G, but I did not see any cautions in the rear pit.

Got on board okay and can continue with the next mission though...Thanks!
