A flare gun. Somewhat functional even - click on the trigger to shoot the flare. 

At the same time, an annoying lump of iron, which blocks the view of some instruments and circuit breakers. Fortunately, you can remove it in the mission editor (in one of the airplane properties tabs).

Another fun thing is you can click on the little colored squares on the right hand canopy rail. There are 4 colors; green, white, red, yellow. If you click a color, the pilot will load that color flare into the flare gun. If I recall, you get 3 shots of each color.
