SCAR-M Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 This is probably a problem that DCS developers are already fixing, as it is related to the behavior of the AI in DCS. However, I would like to remark some aspects that I have observed and could be overlooked. As well as share my propouses. The big SAM systems , such as the Patriot or the SA10, are the main defence of many nations. But in DCS their capacities are too limited. Most times their range is a third of their missiles maximum, so they react late and do not defend well the air space as should be. With only their radars, It ought detect the threat and shot before or at least when it comes in. As a cosequence we use too much units of these on our missions to complete the task. The SHORADs units are total ineffective. The ones with missiles react partially but the guided AAA are totally blind. They are unable to shoot down a gliding bomb or a rocket. My propouses: Improve the range and intelligence of the main batteries. With one group only the airspace should be quite defended as in real life. Force Shorads be able to detect and destroy subsonic objects, with a specified probability, in a small area. Assign a level of knowledge about the situation to SAMs. It seems that they are isolated and do not known what is going on outside its range. In some cases can be true but in mostly not, as they are part of an army. It could be conditioned by the presence of a EWR or not in the coalition, for example. Implement an IADS code that turns on/off and force to shot or not the units depending of the integrated units, the threat and its range. Thank you for your time.

adirtynurse Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Also remember that SA-10s and the Big-boi Patriots were never meant to shoot down fighters. So them not shooting their telephone poles at highly maneuverable fighters would be ineffective and a waste of resources anyway, since the big rockets aren't as maneuverable and at max range would be low on kinetic energy. Air defenses are also purpose built, not as jack of all trades. So look into the Skynet. Another point is that we have 1970s-80s air defense in an arena where we fly mid-2000s aircraft. We don't have modern air defences in the game currently. Check out some of the mods. HighDigitSAMs should add modern SAMs, I believe. If you match the eras, they'll be a handful.
