When entering the wind edit into the CDU which direction should you use from the briefing screen? The Meteo direction?

The meteo direction.  There's a mod to put LASTE wind corrections into the mission briefing.

Also the original forum tutorial, although some pictures are broken now:

In addition, OpenKneeboard puts the LASTE wind corrections in the briefing tab:

Aha yeah I remember that post from about 10 years ago, wondering if this is still the case. Thanks.

FWIW, this is based on @Boris's post - the only major difference is that OpenKneeboard uses magvar at bullseye, which varies both by lat/long and by mission date.

My projects:

OpenKneeboard - VR and non-VR kneeboard with optional support for drawing tablets; get help
HTCC - Quest hand tracking for DCS; get help

If you need help with these projects, please use their 'get help' links above; I'm not able to track support requests on these forums.

I've always heard the correct way to edit the winds in the CDU is leave it alone and not touch it. The jet calculates the winds real time more accurately (or at the very least not less accurately) than what the weather shop gives you before flight.

This is for DCS, it's not clear that the CDU actually records this info correctly in-game.  Otherwise you might not have flown through all the layers to get the wind info in the first place.

based on the accuracy of CCRP dumb bombs using the jet's wind models in DCS it looked pretty darn good to me. Have you been having issues that makes you think the default wind model is bad?

No, but historically there have been some videos out there showing the differences between manually entering wind info and not (just do a YT search on 'DCS wind laste').  It's a tiny difference, and I've never had an issue with it, but I've no idea if this has changed over time or not.
