jubuttib Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Short and sweet, can you or can you not? Tried searching for an answer via google and forum search, but didn't find any mention of this subject. Buddy of mine's been reading some books about naval aviation, and this seems to be a thing that's done sometimes, so that the launching plane can focus on their egress. Would be fun to team up and try something like this in DCS too, but so far haven't found any mention of whether it's possible or not.
bfr Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Good question and I can honestly say i've never tried. IIRC in real-life you could "buddy guide" a Walleye via the DL pod so the same might well hold true for a SLAM-ER, but no idea if its a capability implemented in the game for either weapon. I'd assume not as surely the channel selection as implemented wouldn't work very well if several weapons from multiple aircraft are in the air at once within pod range and a non-launching aircraft tried to "tune in" on any given contended channel?
jubuttib Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 Yeah, that was my main thought as well, channels being weapon pylons would get seriously cramped in MP.
Lane Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) Can't find anything on the subject right now, I remember have read something similar by the past, but im no sure it was about the SLAM-ER, could be french missiles. In case the plane is destroyed, an other plane can take the control. Really not sure. The only reference we got is it can ofc be controlled by the WSO or the pilot and this can be only a reference to this. Solution AvroLanc Posted April 11, 2023 Solution Posted April 11, 2023 It was once suggested by ED that buddy-controlled MITL datalink stuff was planned….but we’ve heard nothing since. Safe to assume that it won’t be added anytime soon. Although maybe with the future F-4, F-15E….GBU-15, AGM-130 etc it might get looked at again. 1

I think both the GBU-15 and AGM-130 were on Razbam's list for the F-15E, as well as the datalink pod (which is different to the one in the Hornet module). Although at what point they appear is anyone's guess. And like you say, buddy control is a whole different ball game and probably well down the priority list.
