Rounds from the GAU-8/A are completely transparent, even when I completely slow down the game with ALT + Z!

With Multi-Threading thriving in the DCS World community, I think it's time to atleast allow the rounds to be non-transparent. Because there are multiple TGP FLIR videos on youtube where you can clearly see the rounds impacting a target.

Here is some FLIR videos from the SNIPER + LITENING targetting pod:

3:06: firing TP rounds at a container.

Most likely combat footage from Afghanistan, seems to be using PGU-13/B High Explosive Incendiary shells from the effects in the video.

I assume we're seeing the Schleiren effect of those rounds rather than the rounds themselves, which would be too small to see at that distance.  Is there anything else in DCS that has such an effect?  Not just the vapor cone.

I can't believe I just used the words 'too small' for anything related to 30mm ammo 🤣

Yeah you're sorta right there, I think it's just because the back of the round is extremely hot. You can see it in the apache as well but it's more clear due to better FLIR + less velocity.

Schleiren effects are due to changes in air density from turbulence, the rounds could be ice cold and you'd see the same effect.  The rounds themselves are probably too small to resolve in the camera by the time it reaches that distance, either in either visible or IR.  30mm at 2 km is an ungodly small number of mils 🙂

the confounding variable with the Apache is that it's probably firing the cannon at things a lot closer.  Maybe close enough to actually see the rounds in IR?

Maybe, but I believe making the rounds non transparent will still make it look a lot better. Especially in the Apache as you've mentioned.
