gulredrel Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 (edited) Hello, did a quick tour around London in Normandy 2 map. Noticed the following. Having set some nav points in mission editor. Did a stored alignement. Distance to waypoints is ok but: 1. pointer shows wrong and changing direction, even when flying straight. 2. pointer okay when totally close to selected WP 3. switching from magnetic to true north changes compass card too much, compare screenshots with status bar below. 4. heading pointer does not switch when switching between magnetic and true north (not really sure, but I think this should change heading as well) Please find track attached. Comparison true north and magnetic: Waypoint is in Farnborough Airfield marked with the arrow, check how heading indicator behaves when getting closer in the three images: Haven't tried on different maps yet. gulredrel Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 Added info. Looks like problem with cold start and alignment?! Not sure if it's on my end. Need to do more testing. Used stored heading alignment without changing positions. Do I need to wait after engine start and generators online before starting INS alignment? From hot ramp start mag vs. true north is okay in Caucasus: From cold ramp start and stored alignment, mag vs. true north is too far away in Caucasus:
fausete Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Good morning, This is a known bug, the current INS navigation logic is a placeholder. A new one is already in development that should solve this problem. In the meantime, when starting cold, using a full alignment (ALN) will solve the problem. 1

Do I have to wait a certain time after switching on "Heading and Vertical reference System" and the "emergency gyro magnetic compass switch" before starting the alignment? Or are they independent of the INS platform?

You should wait until the CAP light goes out on the warning panel. 1 hour ago, gulredrel said: Or are they independent of the INS platform? It provides heading information to the Inertial Navigation System, in ALR and ALN modes, to allow a faster alignment. 1 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
gulredrel Posted May 7, 2023 Author Posted May 7, 2023 Hi @fausete, did a flight today using full ALN mode in Normandy 2 map. Much better with this but noticed a different behavior of the heading needle and don't know if it's part of the INS wip things. One of the waypoints was roughly at a heading of 340° from my present position. Flying 350° the heading needle pointed 10° left. As I steered to the right and turned on to a heading of 010°, the needle pointed first to about 30° left and than jumped to 30° right! Turning back left and crossing roughly 0° the needle jumped back to around 20° left. If needed, I'll recreate this and take a quick track and video. Thanks Jens
fausete Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Hi, To be completely honest, I'm not sure but I would definitely appreciate if you can reproduce it and provide a track.

Here you go track attached and short video. First turning left no problem, but at the end coming back near the original heading, it is clearly visible, that something is not working as intended in how the IDN needle is pointing and changing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeVQgHEoqck 20230508_F1EE_IDN_heading_to_WP_jumping.trk Edited May 8, 2023 by gulredrel 2
fausete Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 I see, thanks for the track, we are working on the INS right now so we hope to have improvements relatively soon. 2
Rick Mave Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Yup, I have the same issue. Was a pain to work around this in the latest liberation campaign I flew the EE in. Constantly asking for Vectoring by C2 and Towers ^^ I always cold started using both fast and regular alignment methods as well as different sequences in starting up systems in the jet, which made no difference. I remember it worked fine when I initially familiarized myself with the jet. It started being an issue around a month ago.
