Set frequency at what power?

What power should I set, in order to make transmissions audible throughout the entire map (Syria)?

Any ideas? 100W? More?

You likely won't because it's affected by line of sight.  I've put max power in the north and you can't hear it in the south.

I wish there was an altitude window in the radio transmission GUI, so you could put it up 100,000ft and you could hear it throughout.

(if you use scripting, you can put the source as up in the air, which works.  Alternatively, without scripting, you can make an aircraft do the transmission up in the sky, extends the range)

Wait what? These transmissions are only heard when in LOS of the transmitting unit?

Oh bummer.. then I'll have to redo all (~30) of the transmissions I just added to my mission 😞

Do you know if transmissions are also blocked by scenery, or only by terrain?

Yeah, it’s true I’m afraid. Not sure about scenery objects, but definitely mountains and things will block it.

Ok, thanks yet again for your help

For now, I've set all units to 100W and I'm gonna just try and see how that works out for my mission. But , reading your experience, I'll probably end up placing a few aircraft in orbit at high altitude.

You do know that forces in the real world deal with LOS all the time. The only radios that work everywhere all the time are satellite waveforms, which entail a whole other level of encryption and access time. 50W would normally be a maximum amount in an airborne unit. Not having perfect radio comma is part of the fog of war.

Yep, but when you're trying to tell a story (ie, making a complex mission) if you want the tx heard, you want the tx heard.

i have tried to play a morse code sound using two methods:

1) a unit tuned to a freq and transmitting message with 1W  - audible in the mosquito R1154 at 98ft. ASL at 60 nm over the channal

2) a small zone using the "Radio Transmission" also set to 1W (smallest possible) and again audible at 60nm at 98 ft. ASL

I believe this is some what unrealistic to receive a signal sent out with 1W from a ground station from a range of over 60nm, hidden well below the curvature of the earth.

How is it possible to limit the transmission power of a signal if a power of 1W is not low enough??

Mission with example attached.

One station is at 5 AM @ 1 Watt, from a Bedford Truck

The other transmission is at 7AM @ 1 Watt from a zone

Mosquito starting in air in active pause 66nm at 98 ft. altitude from the two transmitters, both are clearly audiable on the R1154 receiver

I know of an example from Cherbourg where the Coast Guard was using a 1W signal which was received by a boat 60 nm away. It comes down to the antenna if you have a decent radio.

It also depends on the atmospheric conditions. 60nm is not impossible.
