jvandemark Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 (edited) I just upgraded to DCS 2.8.4, and I have a problem with the antenna elevation using winwing's f18 throttle (Hotas Max). The antenna elevation has always been questionably functional with the f18 throttle (while flying a Viper) in that it makes huge jumps up and down. Thus in the middle of a fight you can't move the antenna elevation with any level of accuracy to get a lock. In DCS 2.8.1 I worked around the issue by simply creating a couple additional entries in `default.lua` to reduce the vertical movement. so instead of the default `THROTTLE_ANT_ELEV_UP` = to 1.0, I set it to 0.2 and everything worked great. Unfortunately with 2.8.4 this workaround has been negated by some integrity check I suppose. So this modification is not, in my opinion, giving me any unfair advantage (I only play single player anyhow) but allows me to operate the radar effectively. How can I work around this? Can this check be overriden? Taking your hand off the throttle to mess with some slide on the base is a non-starter as far as I'm concerned. I find this very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Edited May 7, 2023 by jvandemark
Falconeer Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Sadly it's not resptricted to that throttle only. There are numoures threads in the wishlist and controller/bugs section asking for a more controllable antenna setting. Either ED doesn't care or it's very low on the priority list (even how freakin' annoying this is) Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper Afghanistan F-15E Strike Eagle Kola Peninsula Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat F-4E Phantom
jvandemark Posted May 7, 2023 Author Posted May 7, 2023 I may just break down and buy the F-16 winwing throttle :sigh: Anyone own this throttle, would you buy it again? any problems?
Sjanten Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 @jvandemark. Got both the F-16 and F/A-18 throttle and stick for the Orion and have had no issues with it at all. would buy it again.. I know that there have been some issues with WinWings customer support might be a bit "special" when interacting with them. Other than that it is all good. I think it is more a language issue that anything else. The setup with the F-16n HOTAS in the viper is amazing. i would go for the MFSSB kit for the stick if i was to buy it today.
MothManOG Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) So I have the same issue but I figured out a workaround with joystick gremlin creating a relative axis with the ratio set to 10-15. Works fine for me. PM me if you want more info. I use the antenna elevation knob on the f18 throttle for the viper and love it. While at it, I tested the button with my TM WH Throttle, for me it takes about 2 seconds from full down to full up antenna elevation. Might be subjective, but for me it doesn't seem too fast at all. If you just "click" the button up and down, I think it is still reasonable adjustment speed, even on lowest bar setting. Or you might just select more bars, meaning bigger altitude coverage.
