Dieselmadness Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 (edited) I’ll try to make it brief, but seeing as how we only have the NTTR in the us for a map for some strange reason not a single other AFB is modeled in the continental United States, I’m looking for ideas on simulating a flight “across the pond” for deployment…similar to this do all F16 pilots real world ALWAYS fly their jet over to deploy or do they ever hitch a ride on a C17 for example and fly to their base that way, only to be assigned a fighter upon arrival? I would assume in real world you fly from Nevada to the east coast us tanking the entire way, stop over night, then do the same thing across the pond. May be tricky to simulate using different maps to get the general feel for east coast us ops with an airport that can support an F16…any and all ideas welcome. In the real world though, is this always the case? Edited May 30, 2023 by Dieselmadness
Furiz Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 As far as I know, there are much more pilots in a squadron then there are squadron jets so I guess some hitch a ride and other fly the jets.
av8orDave Posted May 30, 2023 Posted May 30, 2023 There are a whole host of good books that address this topic for a host of aircraft types, and the F-16 would be no different. Books include: - Strike Eagle: Flying the F-15E in the Gulf War by William Smallwood - Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War by William Smallwood - A Nightmare's Prayer by Michael Franzak - Viper's in the Storm by Keith Rosenkranz In short, the jets are flown to the airbase they are deploying to by a handful of pilots from the squadron. The rest arrive either through military transports or commercial flights (or both). 1
