Hi...

This occurs when locking bandits at BVR (using radar screen not HMCS) and closing to the merge. Occurs in RWS, STT and TWS.

Bandit is locked (head on), I close to within firing range of Aim9x, uncage and I may get a lower pitched tone, but missle doesn't track at all even if I get very close before firing. If I activate the HMCS and then restablish lock with HMCS, uncage, I get the higher pitched tone immediately and missle tracks, even head on. Is this a bug?

I'd like to lock from further out and beable to fire without having to point my HMCS at the bandit also.

Have you uncaged the seeker?   (sorry didn't read carefully)

Are you in Dogfight Mode or AA Master Mode?

Cooled down? Slaved?

Just two ideas from the top of my head.

AA mode - yes

Cooled? I don't touch the IR Cool switch as I didn't think it was necessary for the 9X as the missle works perfectly when locked using HMCS.

Slaved? Wdym? I thought it slaved to the locked target automatically when I hit uncage.

Sometime, you need to manually start the cooling of the seeker head. Can't tell exactly under which conditions. You can set the seeker to different modes. Bore will set it to your HUD or HMCS if activated. Slaved will couple it to your AA-Radar. AFAIK (I'm not very good with the systems. Maybe find some videos on the topic)

The AIM-9's seem to default to uncaged.  If you hit the cage/uncage button, you recage the missile seeker.  It's the opposite of the F-16, so it's easy to use the wrong muscle memory.
