mibo Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Hi, After cloning my ssd with OS Windows 10 to new M2 nvme, DCS and MSFS2020 work as they are on their own ssd. But there is one problem. With my previous cpu i7-7700 I had no issues with my Reverb G2 I had about 30+ FPS. 1. After changing to i7-13700 my VR frame rates are now strangely below 20 ! No settings have been changed. Is it possible that Window 10 is not working well with the new cpu? If I am not in VR, frames are about 70. Any suggestions? 2. Want to migrate to W11 but have to install from scratch as my system is not able to enable secure boot (Asus says it is not working because previous OS had been be installed in legacy mode!) The only solution is to install W11 from scratch. 3. Before doing this I have seen on forums that Reverb G2 has problems with Windows Mixed Reality. But what worries me most is point 1 above with low framerates. 4. What are your suggestions and steps to do if I install W11 from scratch but have DCS and MSFS2020 both on separate ssd. I very much appreciate your opinions and suggestions. THANKS
speed-of-heat Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 If you can install a 13 series processor that should have a tpm in firmware, switch that on and upgrade to 11... Hippo Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Whenever I upgrade my system, I always reinstall everything from scratch and I would recommend you do the same - at the very least it can eliminate the issue being something in your old configuration. I recently upgraded i8700k -> i13900k and, with a 3080 ti, in VR DCS saw no improvement in performance whatsover. You definitely should not be seeing lower frames, though. I can't stand W11, so stayed with W10 - you can get a new licence very cheaply at places like https://m.cdkdeals.com/ . speed-of-heat Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Upgrading gives an easier gaming experience than a fresh install of W11. As when you clean install Windows 11 you end up turning on by default a bunch of features that cost you performace... The two main ones are Memory Integrity and VMP. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/options-to-optimize-gaming-performance-in-windows-11-a255f612-2949-4373-a566-ff6f3f474613 And you don't need to buy a new licence if you upgrade hardware for Windows, just bind your activation to your Microsoft account. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/linking-windows-10-to-microsoft-account-without/f986aa42-1df7-4a5d-92e3-ebbb30d6a0c7 @Hippo if you aren't seeing a perf improvement after your upgrade... Then something is seriously wrong with your set up... Or your mechanism of measuring... Just saying... Then something is seriously wrong with your set up... Or your mechanism of measuring... Just saying... I can assure you there is nothing "seriously wrong" with my set up. it made no practical discernible difference for DCS in VR. You may have a point about "mechanism of measuring", and it's quite possible that CPU frametimes, etc, got lower, but the actual fps and gpu %util (the limiting factor) I experienced, with the types of mission I used to test, and my specific settings, were exactly the same. This was a few months ago. I have very recently got myself a 4090, and that has most certainly made a very considerable difference My wallet: not quite so happy. My understanding on Windows activation was that it is linked to your motherboard hardware. Apologies if this is incorrect. Quote A Windows license is associated with your device hardware. If you make significant hardware changes, such as replacing your motherboard, Windows won’t be able to find a matching license the next time you start your device. If Windows was preinstalled on the device and you have made a change such as replacing the motherboard, you'll need a new license. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-help-with-windows-activation-errors-09d8fb64-6768-4815-0c30-159fa7d89d85 Edited June 19, 2023 by Hippo System spec: Intel i7 12700k @ stock, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB GDDR6X, Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4, Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16, Samsung 980 EVO 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD (system drive), WD Black SN 850X 2TB NVME M.2 SSD (games drive), Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 Evo Cooler, Asus XG43UQ Monitor, Oculus Quest Pro, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS Prev System spec (leaving here because I often reference it in my posts): Intel i9 13900KF @ stock, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24GB GDDR6X, Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3600MHz C18, Samsung 980 EVO 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD (system drive), Samsung 970 EVO 1 TB NVME M.2 SSD (games drive), Cooler Master ML360 Illusion CPU Cooler, Asus XG43UQ Monitor, Oculus Quest Pro, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals

Apologies if this is incorrect. was the case for some time, not been since about mid 2018... true activation has to be re-done with a major change of hardware, but this is done automatically if you have linked to your MSA by authenticating... so you geta reactivation every time you login (you might have to run the troubleshooter)... my motherboard and GPU and CPU have changed several times since i upgraded to Windows 10... no new licence required (or hacks) ... actually this was sort of always the case you could always do a telephone reactivation, but that was expensive (to microsoft) so the allowed you to bind activation to the MSA. I think it was only "really" true of certain OEM licences in a functional sense. actually_fred Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Even without the linking, pre-2018 it would *usually* automatically activate with upgrades. When the automatic online activation didn't work, it always let me activate via the phone system. 1 My projects: OpenKneeboard - VR and non-VR kneeboard with optional support for drawing tablets; get help HTCC - Quest hand tracking for DCS; get help If you need help with these projects, please use their 'get help' links above; I'm not able to track support requests on these forums.
