I wanted to play a .trk file with the DCS in built Replay function, however every time I try and get the replay started I'm immediately booted to the coalition selection screen, whereafter if I choose spectators, my game will throw out this error:

null

It is a Cold War replay I'm trying to get clips of, but I can't find that Cold War directory anywhere. Loading up the file and editing it in mission editor didn't give me any issues, but the problem still persisted even when I enabled External views and disabled FOW.

this is a multi player recorded TRK

the reason why it will not play is because the server hoster has NOT put all the script files the mission requires to run inside the MIZ file, they appear

to be hosted on their actual server, so you will not be able to play this TRK file

No more pre-orders

That really sucks, any way for me to get it to play? Do I need to get those files from the server owner?

No, tracks are called replay, but they aren't a recording, they are a step by step reincarnation of a mission that was played. When in MP as a client, no tracks will show other players as they aren't there to be replayed. For MP, look for a free mod called Tacview and for servers that allow replays (ones that dont give you a blank track) Some servers withhold tracks but you can download them from the server after some hours. HTH with the reason its a hard no.
