In the recent screenshots I'm seeing a lot of deciduous trees.

Shouldn't the trees be mainly conifers (and shouldn't they gradually get shorter and give way to tundra?

Nah, it's a good mix, and there's not a whole lot of thundra in the places shown in the screenshots, so I guess we'll have to wait and see about that. There should be alot more trees though.

Several of the pictures are of the coast, which is very windswept and so doesn't have a lot of trees

Yeah, the general vicinity of Bodø doesn't look to have a lot of trees (apart from on the air station) it looks like you have to go further to the east to really see lots of trees (though this shot was facing towards the east and not many trees can be seen). The other shots look to include Rovaniemi which has a tonne of trees all around it.

I haven't been further North than Tromsø, but the vegetation I saw there looked a lot like the birches we have around our mountain cabin way further down south. And they do get shorter the higher the altitude is. Our cabin lies at about a thousand metres, and we hit the treeline if we walk a little higher. Because that's what the tree line is. At what altitude do trees stop growing. And the further North you get, the less the altitude obviously.

Cheers!
