RCN_Moose Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 So, I'm working on a new skin. Not based on any real life helos or schemes. This ones all about the heat :)
RCN_Moose Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Ahhhh, 40 views and no comments? :wallbash: What do you think? Good/bad flames? Cool idea? Waste of time??
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 It might be seen as tempting fate? Or maybe I'm just too used to Fiery Rotorless Crashes® Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
CrazyD Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Hey Moose - I like the flame design, I think it would have a greater impact if it were focused on the fwd section and slightly swept back - kind of like the idea that the fires of hell are coming for you and you are gonna die!!!!!! Maybe put a profile skull on either side of the nose, with flames trailing behind. The funny thing is, I was thinking of doing something along those lines recently, but now you beat me too it, so I offer this concept for you to give it a go (besides, I've got a different skin in progress ) Nate - like how you've "trade-marked" your preferred mode of landing :megalol:
RCN_Moose Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 OKay, so I've redone the flames, and continued the theme fully along both sides. Crazy, I was originally thinking along those lines, but I didn't have the patience to line up the flames going from piece to piece. I do like the skull and crossbones idea though.
yeepeekai Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I think your black is too black IMO. Try to use the dark of the official skins, something more like dark gray instead of pure black. It will be more detailed. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] And... Hum... Sorry for my english...
RCN_Moose Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 yeepeekai, its not the black thats hiding the detail, it's just that I have most of it turned off at the moment
RCN_Moose Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 Hey Crazy, Is this sort of what you were thinking about? (just a quick test to see how it would look) I'm actually thinking about going more this route now but I'm not sure what would look better, flames coming up from underneath, or back from the nose. And getting a skull to wrap around the nose of the a/c is going to be a PITA...
Vesperatus Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I think the flames coming from under looked better. But I also ask my wife to choose my clothes for me in the morning ;)
CrazyD Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hang on Moose, give me a minute - gonna google pic for ya ...
CrazyD Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) Ok, a quickie search, this is the closest I had in mind - position the skull graphic on either side of the nose, with the flames extending back alongside the fuselage, about as far back as the cockpit side windows, then stop there. And for my input, having the flames along the complete underside of the fuselage, and pointing straight up kind of gives a strange effect, because in effect the aircraft then is made to look like its just sitting there. Swept flames, on the other hand, give the appearance of speed, lethality and with the skull, "Death is Coming for Youuuuuuu!!!!!" (lol) Edited March 3, 2009 by CrazyD

But i'm hovering 90% of the time ! :music_whistling:
CyBerkut Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hmmm... perhaps the rotor wash should be blowing the flames down then... ;) Actually, swept up and back (diagonal) would probably look great, but so do the efforts already posted. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Flames from hell cant be blown away my friends. They just keep on burning !
RCN_Moose Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 Well, the trial and error continues, but I think I'm getting close to something.
RCN_Moose Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Okay, Crazy you were right. The Flames from a skull do look better. I still need to do alot of tweaking, but this is the basic theme of what I'm going to go with.
CrazyD Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Moose, you fired the missile right on target! The only thing I would reconsider would be the sizing - I think that if you reduced the skull by 50%, and position it centred on the nose cone (as viewed by the side of course), then the effect wouldn't be so dominating. The flame pattern would extend back to roughly where you've got the rear of the skull positioned in your pic posted above. Then you'll just have to figure out the colour scheme for the rest of the fuselage. Might I suggest a shade of really dark blue, with contrasting light to medium grey, and maybe some trim of deep red or green even (I'm grasping at straws at this point, lol). But I love your skull pic - exactly what I had in mind. We definitely need to get together for some beers! The skull pic I was hoping to find would have been one like yours, but with the jaw in an open "banshee scream" kind of position. But yours is just as good! Did I mention I like your skull pic? Any chance you could fwd me a copy? @ Vesperatus - If you're hovering 90% of the time, that's like being a sitting duck! Definitely going down in flames for sure :D! Edited March 4, 2009 by CrazyD

RCN_Moose Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Okay, progress continues. I need some feedback on location of skull/flames and the actual overall skin color. Some Examples:
Vesperatus Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I think the skull should be closer to the nose and the flames waaaaaaaaayyy longer. Like from the nose to just a little bit behind where the pilot sits.
CrazyD Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I'll agree with Vesperatus. Hard to tell in the pic, but did you have dark red in with the black for the rest of the body? Or is it my monitor? Looks awesome!
RCN_Moose Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Ya, there is some 'blood' red in with the black. But it's random and fairly faint. I'll have to work on some longer flames. It may take some trial and error. At the moment if I stretch them out that much, they look like crap.
