Flapjacks Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Hey, how do I correct for wind when dropping cbu-97's? They seem to hit the mark when I use them in my own mission that has no wind, but they're off when I'm in a MP server with wind. Or are cbu's still not modeled right?
Nickkerkwijk Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 (edited) The CBU 97 is a 'dumb' bomb so you need to know which direction the wind is coming from. In my experience the best results come when i drop the bomb a little bit long to target in to the wind. Also the burst height is very important, if it is to high the bomblets will float away on the wind. 900 Feet burst height works pretty good imo, then the bomblets will despence and be put to work almost immediately The CBU 105 is the same bomb as the CBU 97 but with a wind correction kit, when they add this to the arsenal of the F15E the wind drift won't be a big problem anymore Edited August 21, 2023 by Nickkerkwijk 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Flapjacks Posted August 21, 2023 Author Posted August 21, 2023 Yeah, the 105's is what I use in the A-10C II. I've been using 900 or 1200 ft burst too. I try to fly with or towards the wind as well, but they still miss unless I unload a bunch of them or put in a bit of a dive when the release que starts to drop. I guess I'll just have to wait for the 105's to be added. Thanks for the reply! 1
Longiron Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 a release at mach 0.9 with about 25 deg dive seems to get the job done. i've done faster like M 1.10 but maybe transonic comes into play not sure, M 0.90 seems to be the sweet spot with a 1200ft burst. 1
nuNce Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 What is your usual release altitude for those cluster bombs?
Flapjacks Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 To get them to hit accurately when on the MP server (dealing with wind), I'll be between 8-12k ft, but I have to dive about 10 to 15 degrees when I see the release cue, so I probably lose about 1,000 ft by the time they release. With no wind, I've gotten hits from as high as 30k ft (no dive).
