Hello, I just installed DCS via Steam.  It downloaded and verified the game files.  When launching --nothing happens.   Am I missing something --any help would be appreciated.

This a new installation on a new PC --all drivers have been updated.

Are you sure that your PC meets the game minimum requirements? How much ram does it have?

OK, DCS should work on your PC with no issues. Have you tried a "Verify integrity of game files" ?  You reach int by right clicking on the game on your Steam Library, then choose properties, Installed files and then verify Integrity.

Also, confirm that you do have free disk space.

Thanks Rudel_chw, yes the verify the integrity of game files did not find any problems.   DCS is installed (via Steam) on an SSD --it is the only thing installed on it.   Lots of space available.   I'm not getting any errors on launching the game --just does not seem to run.  I also launched with the shortcut it put on the desktop --rebooted, etc.

There should be a DCS World folder at c:/users/your-user/saved games/ …. Inside it is a /Logs folder, inside there should be a dcs.log file with a last modified date equal to your last dcs run attempt … can you attach that dcs.log folder here? To look for clues?

Thanks Rudel, I checked my C:\Users\me\Saved Games folder and it is empty.  It may be empty because it hasn't launched yet..?   I have DCS installed on D:\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld --nothing in any of the subfolders with the DCS.log file.

Then DCS must be crashing even before starting .. its really strange, check your antivirus logs to make sure it is not flagging dcs as a virus.

Nothing on the anti-virus threat protection history.   One thing I didn't mention is that I also purchased the F-14, the super carrier, FC3 and the new Sinai map, 7 DLC's in all.   Steam says 220.68 GB of installed goodness on the SSD.

This whole setup was purchased specifically to play DCS ---so after much saving up and spending $$$, the day arrived to actually download... I'm sad I couldn't get to see it even launch.  Hoping for the really great graphics and to experience the art of DCS.  Someday soon 🙂

Thanks for the responses Rudel, it is appreciated.

Seems you will have to open a support ticket, as there isn’t enough clues to diagnose the problem:

I'd download and install standalone, non-Steam version, temporarily, just to see if that one launches at all. It might help to narrow down if it's strictly a DCS problem or Steam related one.

Thanks Art -quick question, if I install standalone, will I have access to my new modules?  It's a little confusing on how Steam and Standalone accounts access them.   But I suppose I could install standalone just to see if it will actually run..?

Thanks for chiming in!

Not a Steam user myself. IIRC Steam keys can be transferred to Standalone account (but not the other way around):

Yes, I suggested installing barebones standalone (without any modules) just to see if it runs at all. You can still do it if support doesn't answer immediately (it's weekend after all), or you can wait a bit for their answer.

Hey Guys!   Support has been very helpful and fast to respond even on Saturday.  But have yet to identify the root cause.

Per Art-J's recommendation, I downloaded the StandAlone and it installed --and worked!  Sorta, it crashed (no longer responded after I launched a T51 quick action mission to see what it looked like).  After what seemed like forever, Windows eventually put up a prompt that the program was no longer responding so I elected to close it rather than continue to wait.

So, instead of relaunching the Standalone, I attempted to use Steam again --and it now works!  I now have the Saved Games folder that did not exist prior to loading/running the Standalone.

Sadly my weekend of getting to know DCS is pretty much over, but I'll dig in by next weekend and hopefully have my setup figured out (headtracking, hotas, etc).
