OK - Here's the Issue.......a persistent, recurring problem that has been occuring for the last month or so:

Ping to Server from PC: 194

PING1.jpg

Ping to Server from DCS: Black Shark Interface: 659

PING2.jpg

Indicative from Interface is that the issue is not limited to one server alone but a General Trend. Results replicated with both XP and Vista.

Anybody with any ideas as to what might be the cause of the anomoly?

Is your ISP blocking "unusual" ports to prevent file sharing?

How would I know if that is indeed the case?

Behaviour is also random.......I can leave it for a wee while and all will return to normal and then rocket up again. No pattern to the fluctuations at all - doing my head in atm.

32 bytes package is something very different from usual client-server communications. Besides provider's QoS system can give more priority to ICMP packages rather then some unknown port-to-port connection.

Could you sort it out?

What came into my mind is that you can let somebody host a server at port 80, which is a port which usually is not closed by ISPs.

So if port 80 has no lags / spikes, you know its your ISP.

I've changed ISP's - from AOL to Plusnet Pro which should activate in a week or so. Atm I'm still on AOL till tomorrow and as such have not bothered to pursue the matter any further......that and moving house :weight_lift::censored:

I do however strongly suspect that it could be Almost-On-Line.....:music_whistling:

I posted a link, not long ago, when I got sick and tired of RoadRunner Cable with latency and ping problems. it is very, very frustrating when you do all you can at your end with connection problems, and the only thing left is the ISP. It can be your home network, if you have a firewall and/or router. It appears not many of the pilots here use RoadRunner Cable. I would have like to have exchanged experiences with them and their RR Cable service.

Ok, I have also had high ping problems as of late, I am in the same city as Viper and it was a problem with the BT exchange.

go here viper and see if your BT exchange is showing any problems as that is why I had problems.

Thankfully my exchange went from Red to Green just a day or so ago as the VP aka Virtual Pathways were messed up which will result in bad ping and slow download speeds during anytime of the day but get alot worse than normal at peak hours.

Alot of the BT exchanges in our city are being worked on at the moment to upgrade them to the 21CN spec's which allow for upto 24mbit and beyond so it could also be work being done on the exchange is causing you grief, that plusnet link works no matter what ISP you are with and will show you the state of your exchange for numerous things.

I know you said you are not looking for a fix anymore due to your shift to a new isp but ISP Routing could of been the problem here, basically the way the info takes to get to the server, maybe aol changed something hence your problem, sometimes if that is the case turning off your router for atleast 30 minutes can "sometimes" fix that as hopefully when you reconnect you reconnect to a new gateway that hopefully takes a different path than the one you were on previously.
