5600x vs 5900x for vr

With the Amazon prime day sale I can get a 5900x for £244. Does anyone have any experience of this CPU and is it worth the upgrade? My current specs are in my signature. Any replies are appreciated before the end of tomorrow (11th Oct).

That would be the wrong choice imho, if, then I would go for a 5800X3D instead.

Thanks for the quick response. I have read that the 5800x3d is the better choice but is this still the case since MT was introduced? Do you think I will see any performance improvement over the 5600x with my GPU?

According to multiple statements here in this Forum, YES.

If it is worth the expense depends on your budget.

You can offset the expense by selling your 5600X

Yes!

functionally very little performance update

For DCS, I would say it is close to nothing. (5900X)

I would go with the 5800X3D if that is an option.

(For the record: I have a 5900X but would buy an 5800X3D instead if I had to choose again)

It's the price drop in the 5900x which prompted me to consider an upgrade, but for the £40 price difference it sounds like the 5800x3d is the way to go. Thanks for the advice. Searching through the DCS threads it does look like this can give a big improvement for VR.

Everytime you are CPU-bottlenecked, which is most often experienced in VR. But you may also have improvements in AI-heavy missions with lots of units e.g....

When your CPU is whistling "la paloma" while your GPU has a red head like in high-res, max detail solo missions, you won't see a difference either way.

I am mostly GPU limited unless I cap at 45 fps and use reprojection. This reduces my GPU load to about 60-70%. I guess that means I won't see much improvement from a better CPU!?

I'd say, most of the time, no. But it may of course alleviate some hickups and bottlenecks, that will inevitable happen depending on scene and settings. It's a dynamic environment.

Look. If you have the desire to spend some money and take advantage of the prime day. Or just want to upgrade your PC - go ahead. 🤗

The 5800X3D is the single best gaming CPU in its generation, that is general consensus - and you feel the difference at some point or in some game......

If you don't have the money burning a hole in your pocket or laying around, there is no need to be too sour. Your 5600X is just fine for DCS.

CPU's don't solve a GPU limitation, you can iron out some stutter here and there and enjoy more fluent gameplay, which you only measure in smiles but not fps.

Smoother play is what I am looking for. The 5800x3d is not any cheaper at the moment so I think I will see what DLSS brings first in terms of GPU hit etc.
