Apache & Viper MFD Text is not as crisp and clear for me with 2.9?

Since 2.9 update, I havnt been able to get my MFD text to be as sharp/crisp/legible as I had it in 2.8. I tinkered with the new graphics settings but have not been successful. I wound up turning the Sharpness slider to max as well, but no luck at the highest settings or lowest or anywhere in between. I have a 4090Ti and I was fine before the update. The Viper screen shot probably represents the concern more than the Apache. I have the latest NVIDIA Driver and have done repair. Please advise. Thanks,

@Fakum Turn off DLSS. You don’t need it with a 4090Ti. You should be able to run totally max settings without resorting to upscaling. You should be able to get around 100-120 fps with everything on its highest setting. You could turn on SSS, MSAA x4 etc. the game should look sharp and gorgeous with that beast of a GPU

DLSS @ Quality Renders 66% Scale, so that's why the text isnt as crisp.

Just realize the highest quality setting for DLSS is Off. If you’re getting decent frame rates without it, there’s no need to enable it. DLSS is rendering at a lower resolution and scaling that up to your display. You get much better quality if you simply run your native resolution. A 4090 is more than capable of doing so.

@SkateZilla @SharpeXB Thanks guys, DLSS off resolved that. I did enable MSAA 4x also, I was running over 120 FPS in both 2.8 & 2.9 prior and I locked FPS at 120, now frames are about 80 with some noticeable jittering. I will try and figure that out next. @SharpeXBI disabled SSS before because i was getting weird shadowing wit hit on, but thanks.

MSAA + SSAO + SSLR + DOF

That's a lot of Post Process Screen Space Shader Passes.

Just because you have a 4090 doesnt mean it's automatic maxxed out settings.

I’m running a 4090 and it will do completely maxed settings in 2160x3840 at 120 fps in less taxing situations including mp. The more intensive situations are likely CPU limited such as the Cairo sightseeing and those might drop into the 60s. It’s all very smooth with no stutters.

Yes it really does. A 4090 is a freakin beast 😉

@SkateZilla I hear ya! Keep in mind I was doing well in 2.8 with similar settings, so when I configured 2.9 and frames were still well over 120, I thought i was fine until I discovered the MFD text that you gentleman have kindly pointed out. Now that DLSS is OFF and MSAA is back to 2.8 settings, I discovered some noticeable stuttering. And to be completely honest, Im not mentally absorbing all of the impacts of these individual settings no matter how many utube vids I watch or discussions related to them, they just kinda go over my head. And I dont really understand which settings I should cut back on to get the highest quality Video I can get with a 4090 at (3840 x 1600). Im ok with frame rate drops (not primary focus) as long as all is smooth and as clean and crisp as I can expect with this hardware. Thank you,

the 4090 is prolly not even 75% Utilized because the DirectX 11 Engine cannot handle the Sim at Maxxed out settings, no matter what GPU you have.

@SkateZillaJust as a quick test, I put DLSS back on and to the initial settings I posted,,, watched the frame times (NOT FPS) and they were pretty steady at 8.33. then I turned off DLSS and enabled MSAA at X4, and turned off SSAO + SSLR + DOF and frame times were worse and averaging 11~14. As I recall, staying below 9 or 10 was recommended to avoid stuttering. So, I dont get it, I was afraid of going down this rabbit hole.

Honestly lots of those YouTubers just add to the confusion. They’re the types who just like to screw around endlessly with their hardware and are only looking for hits on their videos using clickbait titles like BEST SETTINGS! The benefit of having a strong system like yours should be that it should only mean taking a few seconds to set every slider to the right and game on. That’s all I need to do with DCS. The advice in those videos likely isn’t relevant to most people and graphic settings can be a personal preference anyways. It’s worth remembering that 2.9 is a test version so some oddities are expected.

Well,, you seem to have succeeded, and I envy you! I would like to do the same but as you can see, where I wasn't struggling with stuttering and have had exceptional frame rates and times in 2.8 and 2.9 with DLSS on, later to realize that my MFD text was crap because of the upscaling, I now have a different dilemma. Back to crisp MFD but a bit of stuttering (Frame times a bit high)

MSAA Kills Frame Times at 1080P, or 2,072,600 px
You're running 3840x1600, or 6,144,000 px which is 300% of 1080p.

MSAA 4X at that resolution will kills frame times,

Your resolution is high enough, there should be enough pixels for MSAA to Sample at 2X and get clean edges, DLAA As well.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but it goes back to Knowing the Limits of the Engine,

DirectX 11 Predates all of the RTX Series, all of the RX Series, Predates VR as well.

Just because the hardware is getting more and more powerful does not mean the end user can crank the settings of every piece of software they run.

DirectX 11 wasn't designed to do any of this, so limiting the "maxxed out settings" is something users need to practice to maintain acceptable frame times,

DirectX's API Overhead and it's age limiting what it can do, can not be solved by throwing more powerful hardware at something.

@SkateZillaThanks for the feedback. I had been running MSAA x4 with 2.8, I spent alot of time with this new rig awhile back getting the settings dialed in to prioritize no stuttering. Frame times were a major monitoring part of that and I succeeded at MSAA x 4. I will test with MSAA at 2x and see how it goes. Thanks
