M08 - Carrier does not appear until 2 miles away and landing in a CROSSWIND!!!!

I have been finding the in the last couple of missions, the carrier (and escort ships) is invisible until very close (within 2 miles) and then in appears not fully rendered.  I see the wake but not the carrier at over 2 miles away.  Plus, it appears that I had to land in a crosswind?!?.  What?  Carrier landings are never in a crosswind.  Needless to say, I spend well over an hour flying the mission just to crash on the fantail due to almost impossible landing conditions.

This is not the only mission I have encountered this on.  (Sorry, for the "tone" of the message, I'm just a little frustrated with the apparent bugs).  Have you had any others report these problems?  What can be done to fix them?

Hey @ouseler - there seems to be a lot of weird things happening with the carrier.. and which affect Dominant Fury. I'll be runnign a major overhaul of the whole campaign with some new features and bug fixing as I did for the original Raven One, but it will take some time - most likely I won't be able to update all the missions for December patch (having an eye laser surgery which will take me out of action for a few days). I'd recommend to wait until the overhaul is complete and then return to the campaign to save yourself some frustration - it is difficult to keep up with some changes being recently introduced to DCS that affects the campaigns - even if ultimately these are good changes. I'll address this and other issues in the overhaul .

Hey BD,

I've found out that invisible carrier problem seems to be more of a DCS 2.9 or GPU driver issue or something issue.  I am seeing only the AIM-9X on the wingtip and only on the Hornet, not rendered properly when I look over at it from the cockpit (this is also in addition to the invisible carrier until 3 miles away).   I can zoom in on it and the rendering improves (I looked it the X when in the F-16 and everything looks fine).  And this is in the CASE I Recovery training mission with the Hornet module, not your campaign.

I played with the DCS system settings, my GPU settings (AMD 7900XTX), even reverted back to an earlier GPU driver when I can remember everything looking fine.  To no avail.

I posted the issue on the forums, but did not get any responses.  Have you experienced anything like this?

Flappie suggested doing a Cleaning and Repair.  And if that did not work sending him the log file.  I will do that and see what happens.  I am running an AMD 7900XTX GPU.   Do you think that the drivers for that may be an issue for 2.9?
