bpremus Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 After watching Reflected's DCS Campaign Buyers Guide" youtube video (and me never tried a single DCS campaign in my life) I purchased a few. Couple of days ago (when MP cold war server was full and couldn't join) I decided to give Fear the bones a try more like f14 training. I ended up flying one mission a day and it felt like watching TV series in 80s when I was a kid... and looking forward what is going to happen tomorrow. AI was behaving nicely, never felt like it was behaving unrealistically that usually kept me from flying in single-player. Learned few things about F14 that i didn't know before, and overall it was fun. Spoiler I was somehow expecting that they will find old P51 trainer that was left from WW2 (something more familiar)... that later has been chased by Migs and saved by F14s in last moment. 3 1 AMD FX 8350 4.0Ghz, 16gb DDR3, MSI R9 390, MS FF2 & CH Throttle PRO, track IR 4 & Lenovo Explorer VMR
Reflected Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Thanks a lot for the feedback, if you felt like watching an 80s series, then I achieved my goal as for the ending, I’d like to remind you that I built this well before Topgun 2 1 Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
bpremus Posted November 21, 2023 Author Posted November 21, 2023 I have not seen Topgun 2, but now it makes sense why there is an F14 in movie trailer . Maybe I should give that movie a chance too. ... just purchased Zone5 and Speed and Angles to have that F14 feel for a bit longer. 1 AMD FX 8350 4.0Ghz, 16gb DDR3, MSI R9 390, MS FF2 & CH Throttle PRO, track IR 4 & Lenovo Explorer VMR
jmarso Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Oh my God, that campaign was tits! Right from the very first mission, when the tanker explained "We have the hard stuff!" I knew I was home in the 80's. Loved all the callbacks to the movies and such. The banter between the pilots was classic- the accent on one of those guys (Ghost?) had me thinking of Caparzo in SPR. Got a kick out of the last mission- it took me a few tries to get clear without getting wasted. As it was, the plane looked like swiss cheese by the time I got her back to the Boat. And the cut scene before that- Oh no you didn't! I had some genuine outrage. Oh my God, you killed Kenny! You bastards! At first I didn't like the 80's era video game sound effects and mission completion messages, but they did grow on my after a while. Jeez, what a fun mission set! GREAT JOB! Onward to Zone 5 for some serious dogfighting instruction from Bio! 1
Namonid_2020 Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 (edited) GREAT CAMPAIGN although from a military and geopolitical perspective is a bit "fairy-tale-like". (Where is the NATO for eg.? What about the Montreaux Convention? etc.) Other campaigns from reflected pay more attention to this issues. But we get an incredible recall of the eighties (our childhood for most of us), great dialogues from movies like Final countdown, the remake of the Backfires' strike from Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising, etc. CONGRAT! All-in-all for me some additional challenge is missing, for eq. landing is not required to complete a mission, and more geopolitical "realism" can make the story/missions far more better. Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Oh, yes, it's a total fairy tale, that's how I advertise it in all of my videos too. I mean: Spoiler A single Tomcat strafing Gorbachev at a May day parade in Kutaisi?! seriously?! It's supposed to be a cheesy 80s action movie, unlike my other campaigns that had realism as their main focus. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Namonid_2020 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 (edited) Yeah right, and you absolutely managed to create a "cheesy 80's action movie". A bit contoroversial that you have to let yourself be lured into Soviet airspace many times (M08, M09) in order to finish a mission. But it is totally obvious and predictable that the MiG's are just baits and there are SAM's. But no choice: if you don't chase the MiG's, you cannot complete the mission. Just a though - otherwise this campaign is nice and funny. Edited January 10, 2024 by Namonid_2020
PawlaczGMD Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 The campaign is really fun and immersive, but I find it a little too easy. For an 80s movie homage, there is not actually that much action in the missions. And especially in the missions where you're flying in a 4-ship, the F-14 AI is a killer against the AI Migs. I find that you need to rush in to get any kills before they clean everything up.

Also, AI performance varies from update to update, and so does missile performance. A mission that's easy now may be next to impossible next month in my experience. If you want hard, try my other 2 Tomcat campaigns they'll give you a run for your money Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord

I think I have read somewhere that this is the suggested order, so I was under the impression that Fear the Bones is the hard one. I guess not.
Reflected Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 Yeah, order-wise it would make sense that it would be the hardest. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
PawlaczGMD Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 OK, the fight in the storm with multiple Mig-21s without Phoenix was pretty tough. Gotta respect the 21.
