Has anyone got a suggestion for a rotary switch that includes a push button function that is not outrageously priced?

I've got an original Winwing Orion throttle here that has a nice rotary switch with button for the wing fold binding, but I'm not particularly keen on tearing it down to find out where the switch comes from.  Thought some of you clever people might have some ideas.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Biggus,

look for EC11 rotary encoder with center push.

Hi.

I once ordered some of them from sparkfun (https://www.sparkfun.com/). They wher just ok. After those, ai found a shop here in Spain (close to my place) that had quite good ones, for litttle money (https://www.electronicaembajadores.com/es/). The website is in many langueges, and I guess they could send them to your place. For me the best deal; good quality and small price. By the way, all other stuff is really good quality as well.

Saludos.

@yogi149 I was looking for a switch rather than an encoder.

@Sacarino111 I don't suppose you'd have a link to the switches themselves?  I found a few rotary switches there but none of them seem to have a push button.

Sure thing. Giveme 1 sec...

Here:

https://www.electronicaembajadores.com/es/Productos/Detalle/IT31ENB/interruptores-conmutadores-pulsadores/encoders-interruptores-digitales/encoder-con-pulsador/

the price is ok. I guess the shipment will make the price raise, but if you buy many or other stuff (good stuff, for an amateur more than enough), it will be better deal.

It has two sets of connections

1 a three pins for rotary otself, with chan A and B on the extremes and the middle one is ground.

2 a 2 pins one for the pushbutton. No one dedicated to ground.

He is looking for a rotary switch, not a rotary encoder.

uuups, my bad!

No,with push buttons I don¡t think I know of.

But still, rotary switches with button are a good option...

Thanks for the effort @Sacarino111, but as @Rapti says I'm specifically after rotary switches with a push button.  I would have thought that Winwing would be using something with fairly reasonable availability for their wing fold switch, but perhaps I'm incorrect.

If you have access to a 3D printer it wouldn't be too difficult to get one of the cheap 12 position Rotary switches from Ebay and make a knob that would slide up and down the splines that could work a micro switch. There are long shaft Rotary switches too, although they are not splined, but that would be able to be modified too.

Hi.

I remember seeing a video of someone boring a hole trought the shaft of the rotary and placing a cilinder inside with a pushbutton in the other side. I don't consider myself able to such a thing, but maybe you are skilled enough to do it.

in the other hand, consider that a rotary switch will be sending constantly a "ON" signal to your board that may conflict with other pushes of buttons. I have done it to use it as a "modifier" in the setup, but as soon as I end up with the business, I place it to the neutral (no "ON") position. If the plane permit the CW/CCW  or UP/DWN action, I then prefered the Rotary encoder with pushbutton.

Nice to have this chat, reach me if needed.

Indeed,I have a rotary encoder for the F/A-18's folding wing control, with the pushbutton used for the IN/OUT action. Work ok, and I can re use it for other functions in other planes/modules.

This is likely the route I'll have to take if I can't find a switch that does what I want.

Interesting ideas.  I could probably create a jig to bore through a rotary switch for a rod to access a switch underneath.  I'll have to think about it.

What exactly do you want and why?

The "why" would help with suggesting alternatives.

Fair.  The application is the missile jettison knob assembly for the F-4.  It needs to be highly tactile, but I'm working with some space constraints, so it also needs to be relatively compact.

@Sacarino111 and @lesthegrngo have given me an idea if I can't find anything that functions in the way I desire.  I know an eight detent rotary encoder would also probably work, but those are quite expensive.  I think I could mount a rotary switch to a PCB that is held against the face plate by springs and then have a button either under the PCB or between the switch and the face plate.

I might just send Winwing support a message and ask if I can buy their switch and see what turns up.

How many ways do you need, and what sort of space constraints?

You could possibly build a rotary switch with microswitches around a moving column, with a button under the column.

Good aproach! Try and inform u, please.

Ideally a diameter of 30mm or less, with eight positions.  I did consider a similar idea but it's quite a tight fit.  I'm sure there are ways.  At that size I could probably design something using 6mm switches laid out octagonally with a column but I'd prefer to have something that requires less effort.
