DLSS in VR (2.9 Stable) is useless for me!

I got the new update for NVIDIA today and set my setting in NVIDIA and much better FPS, and better visuals.

If I may ask, how much better?  What was your FPS before and after?  I have a similar system, so just curious.  Thanks!

thnx for sharing your nvidia settings! Please don't get me wrong but the settings for "Video" - as far is i know - are not affecting games.

I am not very knowledgeable in this area, but since DCS uses DLSS 3.5 without frame generation and I have a RTX40 series maybe thats why everything looks clearer / sharper for me?

Better image quality with DLSS, even so 3.5? Clearer and sharper? I would bet 1 million $ without a doubt, that's pure "personal Magic". 😉

The naming of DLSS 3.5 is a brain fart from nVidia. It's there to make the money mountain even a little bigger. It's a commercial "lie". And It works. Sad but true. 🥵

DLSS 3.5 has >>nothing<< to do with DLSS. N O T H I N G! 😉

DLSS 3.5 is a pure RayTraycing technic. It can only work as long as RayTraycing is enabled. Without RT, there will be no DLSS 3.5, that's for sure.

Please guys, open your mind. There is the internet, the search machines, go get use them. It doesn't hurt, and it will not bite you... I swear. 😇

Yes and no.

The DLAA aspect can indeed improve the picture above the original quality. Especially in regards to otherwise blurry edges and lines, which with DLAA (other than MSAA) are very steady.

Upscaling on its own, can (more or less by definition) not be superior to the same native resolution, that is correct.

Check what your encode resolution is set to in Oculus tray tool or oculus debug tool. If it's too high you can get strange artifacts at the edge.

Hi, I can't go above 1.3 with a 4080 super and keep 72fps (Quest 3) so I would suggest that 1.7 is to much for a 4070. Just a 0.1 change seems to make a big difference.

HP Reverb with a 4090 and DLSS is fantastic. Allows me to hit 90fps continuously. Text is slightly softer with it on vs off, but I don't get the blurry that others seem to be reporting. It's surprising to see such a wide variety of results with some people getting what sounds to be unreadable/unusuable, but others having little problem. I wonder what the different factors are causing this.

In my case (Pico 4 with my sys-specs) its not usable. blurry textures and massive ghosting. When i try to watch the plane via F2 its a mess - like you are watching 2 planes who in the same position and room. Terrible... also when other objects are moving, blurry and ghosting as hell - i only see ladders instead of moving planes. And on the other hand there is nearly no or only a little performance impact.

What are your system specs. It's strange how it's behaving so differently between us, and would be great if we could nail down the cause / factor involved.

Thanks.

We're both running NVIDIA and Windows 11. The main difference is the VR headsets. I'm on a HP Reverb through OpenXR and WMR. It would be good to get some information from others having it as well to see if we can narrow down to whether this could potentially be related to Quest users.

I think just turning it on makes it a bit blurry for others; just a guess, I had already monkeyed with my nvidia settings and the tray tool and had everything pretty dialed in and sharp so for me there was no loss of clarity that I noticed, and my fps took a nice jump.

It sounds like it's more than that. Some people notice no loss of clarity. Some notice very little, and others seem to have things smudged beyond readability.

I've just watched a video on youtube, and it seems that resolution can have a big impact on how much DLSS affects clarity. Maybe it's those with lower res headsets that are seeing it very blury. What sort of headset are you running?

Increase your resolution above native and DLSS should look better.

If i understand you right, i have to increase the VR resoultion - for example with mi pico to 120% and then use dlss in dcs? Or do you talk about the pd setting in dcs - mine is currently set to 1.0

If you are using virtual desktop then set the output to Godlike and see how that looks in DLSS quality. If needed you can increase the resolution by either using PD in DCS or overriding the resolution using OXRTK. Aim for about 1.2-1.3 (so overall res is about 3700-4000 pixels). Another way you could do this is using Quad Views Foveated rendering which allows you to control the centre resolution separately to the periphery. So you could increase the centre to 1.3 and leave the periphery to 1.0 or even reduce it a bit to balance out the increase to the centre. That's what I did with my Pico 4.

Iam not using VD - only SteamVR and Pico Connect via USB3.0 cable. So i can only set the resolution from high to ultra within the pico software. Ill give it a try

I would advise using VD. It's a lot better than Pico link.
