So tonight I did a flight that confirmed my suspicion about the autopilot not working.

I switch the autopilot to “pitch Alt Hold” (aka switch up), but the ap does not hold altitude. I kept switching it on and off, but it refused to hold altitude.

Previously the ap felt sluggish, as if it didn’t really want to steer the plane to the set altitude (or heading), but tonight, no alt hold. It just descended, as if it was being trimmed down.

now my aircraft was probably not perfectly trimmed, but if need to trim my aircraft to fly perfectly level, I dont need autopilot.

im curious why it’s not working and what I can do to fix it. Is there awaits uninstall the entire mod and reinstall it?

I did have many other issues tonight though.

for example, I had 2 gbu12 and 2gbu38. The first gbu38 drops on target. The second refused to release despite beinginrange.

for the gbu38, the target pod refused to see the right target. My wingman send me data twice, but still it got it wrong.

steer points were completely off as well. When flyingback to base (steer point 1 which I used on takeoff), steer point 1 was at a completely different direction.

same flight datalink wasn’t working. I didn’t even see my wingman on the radar in front of me, nor the tanker I fuelled up at.

also, when holding brakes full and set throttle to 90%, tonight the brakes didn’t hold, whilst on other nightsbthey do hold.

so I wonder maybe I should erase it from my harddrive and reinstall the mod fresh?

As a starting point, just do a repair.  It will do as much for you as a re-install.  Also, remove any mods because they can cause unexpected issues that shouldn't make sense.

please always attach a short track replay showing a example of the issue you are seeing.

I would suggest removing all unofficial mods if any and run a slow repair or verify if steam.

thanks

Actually, I did do a repair very recently. As for removing mods, that’s a bit of a rabbit hole. Especially when others with the sane mods don’t experience the same problem ;m(depending on what is meant with “mods”).

Autopilot never worked well for me from day one.

I’ll try post the track tonight.

Check for double inputs on axis, also check the device is calibrated and there is no jitter. This has created problems for people in the past.

thanks

How do I check for jitter? And if there, how to eliminate that?

i use a winwing f-16ex stick

Go to controls in DCS, go to the f-16 (or whatever airplane you want), select axis commands, go to pitch and/or roll, select axis tune at the bottom and at the new window if there is any jitter (red dot). If there is, add deadzone from the options to the right.

You could open the controls indicator, which IIRC is RCtrl and Enter.

This brings up at small display in lower left corner showing control inputs. If it's moving about with no stick input, then your joystick might have a bit of jitter.

Ok soo I tried the suggestions. I noticed my stick hangs forward a little, which causes a slight deflection. Soo I set a deadline of about 9, which covers the deflection.
unfortunately the autopilot still due not engage at all.

is there a secret situation where the ap does not work? Or will I need to remove dcs completely and reinstall everything From scratch?

Does the 3 pos ap pitch switch ingame remain in the up (alt) position after you click it, or is it returning to the center position?

As long as it isn't snapping back to center, you should be in pitch alt hold.

I suspect a binding issue, likely between the specific binding entry you're using in DCS and the way your physical controller is handling button outputs.

Also, a dead zone of 9 is massive and you shouldn't need anywhere near that much to compensate for a controller issue.

Right, soo last night I did some troubleshooting with help from others. I launched an instant mission free flight. I assume that it would be in flight configuration, and forgot completely that dcs syncs to hotas. One guy noticed my heart handle was down, soo when I retracted get, at just last night it was working. Doh!

I still think the hanging forward of my stick caused the original lack of ap, but I might pay around with the deadzone to see to what extent the overhang causes problems.
