F-16 Stores Config behaviour, is this a bug or just something that's on the roadmap not implemented yet?

  1. Missions that start in the air with A2G loadouts (or wing tanks) start in CAT I - shouldn't the plane be configured for CAT III when you load in already?

  2. When using emergency jettison in CAT III, after the wing tanks & A2G stores are gone there should be a master caution or warning. Currently we see nothing, no sound or warning. Is this a bug, not implemented, or not part of this version of the Viper?

  3. Releasing all weapons or Selective jettison is the same issue as #2, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to give the same warning as emergency jettison.

So, it looks like this got implemented in the latest update, but didn't see it mentioned in the latest changelog.  Not sure it's right though?  Or maybe it is?

Loaded up with tanks and 4 GBU-38's on the outer pilots after a hot start (which, btw, should have parking brake on and ejection seat arm off).  I saw the config light and thought "wow, that's new and cool".  It went out when I switched to cat 3 as expected.  After dropping the 4th JDAM, but still having around a thousand pounds of fuel in the wing tanks, it went back on.  Had to clear master caution twice.  I think I needed to press the fault acknowledge button too maybe?  It stayed out the 2nd time.  Also, just to check, I switched to cat 1 and it went out.  Never pulled over 5.5G, either, so I don't think the warning came from that.

My question is is this correct behavior?  I gather there is a point where there is little enough fuel in the tanks that more than 5.5G's can be pulled, but does the plane know that and trigger a warning?  AFAIK, stores cat should have nothing to do with the outer wing pylons and everything to do with inner wing pylons.  Is that incorrect?  Does overall weight effect this somehow?  Was it just a coincidence that after I dropped the last JDAM, I had little enough fuel left in the tanks that it wanted me to switch to cat 1?  Eventually, I did a stores jettison and headed home.  In cat 1 with no master caution, again as expected.  Would be kinda cool if the plane knew when I should switch to cat 1 based on total weight or inner pylon weight, but shouldn't the outer pylons not effect that at all?  TIA

I have a attached a track.

Thanks I'll check it out.

In terms of outer pylons, I thought they should affect it because cat III is required for any A2G munitions regardless of which pylon.

That doesn't sound right.  My understanding is that it has to do with the CG shifting forward when those big fuel tanks are on the inner pylons.  And maybe certain other heavy loads there like big bombs.

  • Fixed: Stores config caution.

The stores config looks like it's been corrected now. Strict A2A should be cat I, anything else hanging under the wings should be cat III, regardless if it's fuel or ordnance.

Just 2 wing tanks and 3x1 gives you an error unless you are CAT I after the patch. No idea if this is correct behavior or not.

You had stores config light with full wing tanks and nothing on the outers?  Just missiles?

Kinda seems like the warning is triggered by the wrong pylons, then.

That sounds logical, but I'm just going by what the manual and training material says - that the AoA limitations are not related to the 2 inner pylons. The rule is just "wing tanks or A2G weapons" ie all 4 inner pylons.

Could be something to do with total weight vs AoA and not just CoG, though I don't know how A2G weapons affect the CoG

Also just noted the switch has no effect when refueling door is open, or landing gear is down.

Wait F-ACK is IFF Acknowledge?  For some reason I always think it's Fault Acknowledge.

That's funny about the switch logic with gear or fuel door.

Really need someone from ED to weigh in here.  Even if it's just to tell us they're still looking into it.

Where is that quote from and what context?  Heavy bombs on the inner wing pylons would be an "air to ground loadout".  I see vague instructions like that all the time in my work as an independent installer of IT/network stuff.

That screenshot quote is from the manual.

From the descriptions of how it's working above it appears that it is now working correct - if you drop all A2G weapons and have no external tanks it is warning you to go back to CAT I?

I'd also like a clear understanding on it. I had 10200lbs of fuel across the internal and 2 wing tanks, and after launching the 2 AGM-88s I had, the light came on followed by Betty giving her 2 cents. My track from that session is attached.

Did you drop the 2 wing tanks before launching the AGM-88s? Or were they empty?

After launching the AGM-88s the light coming on is correct, as long as the wing tanks were gone (or empty?)

I dropped the 4 of my JDAM's and still had wing tanks with a bit of fuel in them when the light came on.

Why are people not supposed to post links to sources?  People say some pretty specific stuff with nothing to back it up.  How are we supposed to try to filter the bs from the real?  Is it because of those leaked controversies involving whichever other game that may have involved material that is still classified?

Launched the harms, kept the tanks, stayed in cat III and got the Stores Config warning. Had about 1500lbs fuel left in each wing tank.

Ahh that sounds wrong then - if there are still wing tanks then it should be in CAT III and not tell you to change it.

Can you report that to the Bugs subforum with a track?

For sources you can reference the DCS manual, in this case the manual says something which is different to how the game is behaving.

In terms of "official real world source" you have to private message the team/mods, because of the risk of trouble with sources that are not meant to be public info.
