CBU-87 armor penetration underperforms compared to public information

CBU-87 in DCS does not have armor penetration modeling. This does not match public information.

A second type of cluster bomb called a combined effects munition is the CBU 87. Each CBU 87 dispenser contains 202 BLU-97 bomblets. Each bomblet is the size of a can of spray paint with a small parachute coming out the back. Despite their small size, 2 inches in diameter and 10 inches in length, each bomblet's shaped charge can defeat the top armor of any tank.

The problem is that MBTs, at least, use a general lifeline instead of distinct damage areas. Hit one on the body or turret with a BLU-97B in a controlled experiment and their lifeline drops to around 80%. No more, no less. More hits might damage it more but due to the submunition spacing that’s extremely unlikely.

The other thing I noticed is that the submunition passes through the MBT and doesn’t explode until hitting the ground beneath it. Or, if after passing through the body at an angle, it hits the ground outside the body, the tank remains at 100%.
