In a stall but AOA indicator shows I'm too fast

Angle of Attack <> Speed, though normally there is a correlation, I would add power...and see what happens... Are you heavy?

once i recognized i was in a stall I added power but i was too low...i think i'll play around with it and see if i can re-create the situation...but no, I had dumped all my external stores

You are assuming you were in an aerodynamic stall but you probably were not.

The F-5/T-38 can develop unrecoverable sink rates well above flying airspeed/AoA.

USAF has observers watching T-38 landing patterns and will wave off pilots who get close to this situation as they may not recognize it developing until too late.

You need to remember the AoA indexer for landing shows "on speed" in a +1 g condition when configured for landing AND ON APPROACH GLIDE PATH.

If you are stabilized at +1 g on the approach path, and it shows the UP chevron, then you are too slow and need to add power. Sink rate will be high, and if you pull the nose up, you will just increase AoA and drag, slow further and steepen the descent, which will result in landing short if not corrected.
