Occasional long freezes during missions. Recommendations from other bug posts not helping.

Hi,

Just got DCS and am really enjoying it but for some game freezes I'd like to try and rule out.

Freezes:

  • Every 5-10 minutes or so
  • Each freeze lasts for around a 1 minute
  • Once the freeze happens no frames are updated. The plane nor the in mission UI is interactable. However the DCS exit UI runs smoothly and can be used to shut the game
  • There seems to be no correlation between which plane I'm flying nor where in the map I am.
  • In between freezes game runs well at consistent 60fps ish

I've tried suggestions from these thread to no avail:

Log file of mission that had 3 or so freezes. I closed DCS immediately after the 3rd freeze if that helps anyone looking through the log.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

And spec list:

  • i7-13700H
  • RTX 3050 (Laptop)
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB KIOXIA SSD

Extra Note:

- I'm currently forcing DCS to run single thread due to problems others have been having. I can change this ofc if it would improve the situation.

Hi,

Thanks so much. That's really weird because I currently have hotplug disabled. And I'm 99% sure it was disabled at the time of the log I sent you.

This leads me to two more questions:

  • Will the log contain info about whether hotplug is enabled or not?
  • Would those warning messages have been able to appear in the log if hotplugging had already been disabled.

Could be me misremembering but I'm very sure it was disabled.

It would be great if you could get back to me on these two points.

Thanks!

hotplug enabled will keep everything connected during your flight.

Something doesn't seem quite right then with my setup?

In settings its shows as disabled. However I literally just opened up DCS and ran a mission. When I went to check the log it doesn't contain anything about hot plug being disabled. I'm probably being really stupid but how can this make sense?

Weird. I have seen other posts where people thought it was set right. Though I believe the log has to show it for it to really be set right. Check to see whether you have anything in your autoexec file. I forgot where it is located. I am at work ATM.

It seems to only show in the DCS.log if it is disabled in autoexec.cfg (no_device_hotplug = true).  If it is only disabled in the GUI, it does not show in the DCS.log.  Not sure if there is a difference in how each method disabled hotplug though, so I do both 😉

dang. i have both places set too. i changed my autoexec on Nov 2022 and forgot.

options.graphics.statsColor = {250,250,250}
no_device_hotplug = true
metaShaderCacheEnabled = false

so you are saying the message does not appear in the logs when set in the GUI? this must be a bug. either way though, OP had devices unplugging.

maybe edit your autoexec to match the suggestions?

Yes, I only get the log message when using the setting in autoexec.cfg.  If I remove that setting, but still have hotplug disabled in the GUI, I don't get the dcs.log message.

@duckradiation

I dont think its a hot plug issue, in your log file it looks like DCS is trying to readjust your settings such as EDTERRAINGRAPHICS41 (Main): forestDetailsFactor. If you look at it, every few seconds it is repeating the adjustment like there is another file trying to force new settings. I just double checked my log and it only reads settings once.

Im not sure what that is all about but could be a corrupt file. I would also disable mods and double check. I also noticed you have a GPS_GNSS script in there, not sure if that has anything to do with it but I have read before that some scripts with SRS may cause that issue. Also, were you using Ctrl Z and speeding up the simulation when that happened? If you were that could be an issue as well. I would eliminate any scripts or mods first then try. If that doesnt work then run a repair. And finally a reinstall if all else fails...
