Open Letter to ED
Greetings,

You are about to remove one version of DCS and I really hope it’s for the best.

But as you will see in the following example which is one of many. I really think you will need much more passionate Beta-Testers flying in Solo AND Multiplayer.
I read recently in this forum that while in Air-Ground Mode (looking for Target with the TGP for instance) the F/a-18C can still watch the sky in RWS or VS but can’t lock any A/A target in STT or create a Track File in TWS
You can read this here.

In ED’s simulated F/a-18C Lot 20 (which is as you say almost ready to exit Early Access you « locked » the function of the OSB to go from RWS to TWS or to STT a target in RWS with the TDC.
Ok and what ? Won’t you say !

Here is the point : Details are important in Simulation !

Those Air/Air Radar modes can also be changed without OSB as for the VS Mode.
And if an A/A target appears in the scanned area while in this « inexistent » TWS, a Track File is created and you can get all TWS Information about this A/A target or any other by changing the L&S.
I hope this is not the source of other bugs to have a L&S while in A/G Master Mode.

To end with this letter, my last true bug report more than 10 years ago  was about a reproductible CTD on the A-10C.
At the time, ED did answer : « Why the hell would you want to do that. »
I replied that in a simulator, I should be able do anything even if my plane would then crash but not to the desktop. 😉
Today, the answers are more politically correct but the fact remain that there are still lots of bugs.

I'm not trolling or trying to be negative, I really hope for the best.
I should maybe try to be hired as Beta Tester with my obsession for perfection.😉

Thanks for reading my pour English and since "WE are making your dream come true" as advertised, I don't think I went too far.

Hi Jean-Baptiste "Flanker-D"

thank you for flying with us for so long and for any reports you have made, it helps with development for any project and feedback is important to us.

We deal with many bug reports, requests and wish lists. Not all of them can be resolved for many reasons, but I think you will agree that when you see our change logs its obvious to see we are working hard and we will continue to.

There will always be bugs, the complexity of what we do can not be under estimated, also we have to be very careful what information we use, it can only be public data, so we do have to take our time to research topics, and even put things on hold if its not possible to use something for an entertainment product. We also have to ensure we are not mixing information between aircraft blocks, it may seen trivial for some, or assumptions are made about how something should work, agains we have to take our time with these reports.

Going to one DCS public version is a big step for us and the only reason we can do that now is our internal testing with closed beta volunteers and QA team for dev testing has improved a lot in recent years. It will mean the patch cycle is slightly longer ( around 6 weeks depending on development and test results ) but this will work well for testing time and also for bringing new content to everyone at the same time.

best regards

It's just an opinion but I think that removing beta will help ED to focus on fixes, and upgrades much better. With thousands of "testers" reporting in the beta phase, many of which are probably nothing that actually needs to be dealt with due to user error and home system problems, ED can streamline and focus much better on actual known stuff. Open beta was always kind of a blind turkey shoot in my eyes.

DCS is an ever evolving software platform utilizing dozens of modules supported by dozens of 3rd party developers, there will always be bugs, that's just the nature of platform software.

Removing the beta/release branches removes a SP/MP/Community split, and removes the need to monitor and maintain both code paths, instead, ED can focus on a singular code path, instead of developing fixes for both OB and release.
