Distiler Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 (edited) Seems russian folks started a plugin for Mumble with basic functions with DCS. Mumble supports plugins via LUA, at this moment it changes channels: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=27180&page=9 So if anyone wants to give a hand to that guy, would be awesome ^^ Edited April 11, 2009 by Distiler AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Distiler Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 (edited) Oh, sorry. It's an opensource voice over ip program, like Teamspeak, Ventrilo, etc., but more advanced. For example, it allows connecting the game and voice program through LUA and create plugins for positional audio, etc. Imagine a first person shooter with Mumble positional voices in of your friends related to ingame positions. http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Main_Page The idea in DCS is first allowing changing channels depending of radio frecuency selected, but if it can be done, imagine audio distortions because weather, signal looses because mountains or distance, etc. DCS has physic radio model, if all the info can be exported via LUA, you can really simulate radio. "The DCS radio physics model calculates every transmission in real time and determines the local signal strength according to numerous variables, including time of day (ionosphere effect), surface type (rough terrain, paved surface, water, etc.), distance to transmitter, transmitter power, etc. Because radio traffic is carried “live,” reception can be interrupted at any point by either natural or artificial interference, such as terrain topology or radio configuration." Radio parameters are in scripts/aircrafts/ka-50/cockpit/devices_specs/r_800.lua In fact, Mumble integration is even in ED's wish list. Yskonyn Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Oh that's interesting to say the least! I've never heard of mumble before. I really like the idea of radio simulation! But I think playing a shooter it would really annoy that crap out of me if it had positional audio for teammates. LupinYonder Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 That would be amazing, mentioned a wish for something like this in my Foward Air command thread in general discussion.
Zorg_DK Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 sounds very interesting! "There are only 10 types of people in the world — those who understand binary, and those who don't." [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
joey45 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 sounds good. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
