I think I'm about 7 missions in, and I gotta say it's getting a little frustrating.

I highly appreciate the attention to details and the realism, all the radio chatter sounds very authentic. But after going through the identical checklist, the identical route, just to have a 2 minute training session, and then back again. It gets kind of tedious. Even more frustrating is the feeling I get that I don't really know what's the "best" approach to an encounter, so it's not always I feel I really learned from my "others" column. And I even go through it in tacview.

The talk about lectures and theory, is just talk, and so is the statements about good communication when flying with an AI. I know you said it's not meant to be a training campaign, but that is a missed chance I feel. I would have loved there to be some kind of documentation or videos showing a workable approach to each encounter.

Also, while waiting for a save game feature in DCS, it would be cool.to.be able to skip to the Fights on call, to try different things.

This obviously comes from a place of endless respect and gratitude for the campaigns you've put out, of which I have quite a few, and especially your post-campaign work.

Yeah, some basics from public CNATRA docs wouldn't hurt.

There are some practice missions added - look at the campaign folder.

@seprudathanks for the feedback. I totally see whant you mean, and these are the downsides of military aviation. Lots of repetitive tedious procedures and then a little bit of fun/terror.  I actually enjoy the admin parts a lot 🙂

this campaign was built in cooperation with Bio, a RL Topgun instructor and he wanted to make sure we don’t publish amy classified information anout tactics and weapons. Which is quite understandable.

this being said, if you play Speed n Angels first, Paco will teach you a lot about basic combat tactics, and Zone 5 will make a lot more sense after that one.

Also, I’m working on MIg Killers, a Topgun 1969 campaign which will havy PLENTY of tactics training, specific maneuvers, etc…which will also help a lot.

I agree a savegame feature would be great. This is why I set up SnA - and MIG killers in separate mission files for the engagements, so they can be repeated indefinitely.

and yes, as @draconus said above there are 3 airstart practice missions in the campaign’s folder for you to practice without having to go theough the admin part

Thanks a lot for your answer! I guess what I'm after is a mix of combat tactics and how to use Jester, so lore game oriented stuff. I love authenticity, but it's probably not the best approach to learning to fight.

I actually already flew most of Speed and Angels, but I guess it's time for a revisit. I didn't know you could fly the engagements individually, that is for sure something that would be very handy! Would love something similar in Zone 5, but I'll start with the 3 practice engagements.

I would set up an instant action 2 v 2 or 4 v 4 quick mission against these opponents in the mission editor to practice over and over until you can reliably win. The principles of combat are the same, regardless of the specific scenario. I am also looking forward to save states though.

That is a good idea, I don't have any issues 1V1, only when it's coordinating against multiple enemies and having to use Jester to lock and IFF. Not really part of the Zone 5 campaign, but BVR would also fall into that category.
