Jinro Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 IIRC the F-2 is a bit larger than the F-16. Maybe that's why it needs a drag chuteThat is true, however Norwegian F16s have a drag chute, yet they're the same size as a standard F16. The F15 is larger than the F-2 and it doesn't have a drag chute either.
mvsgas Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 AFAIK, drag chute allows the aircraft to slow down quicker on landing. Chute also help increase the life of the brakes and to some degree the tire as well. Drag chute where commonly used in the 50 and 60 because of higher speeds seen on landing during those times. Now, is more to help land on small runway. On the F-16 is is completely dependent of the costumer, I seen drag cutes on A models block 15 to C models block 52+ To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. EtherealN Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Do the wheel brakes just suck or something? Generally speaking you do not want to use the wheelbrakes more than you absolutely have to. The more you use aerodynamic braking (boards out, chutes, nose-up-attitude for aerobreaking with your airframe etc) the less risk of wearing out your brakes, building so much heat that your tires explode half an hour after you parked the plane and so on. mvsgas Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Hey Topol, I just noticed; did you had a question about the Misawa F-16? mvsgas Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) If you are referring to the little emblem or cartoon on the tail, it has become more common to see them. That is also the Wing commander jet, so they normally get more attention ( paint touch ups and more cleaning). Also that is why the top of the tail is both red and yellow. Here you can see the 13th FS emblem/logo/patch... no sure how is it called properly (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Samuel Morse) 14th FS (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Jamal D. Sutter) you can find more photos http://www.misawa.af.mil/photos/index.asp http://www.pacaf.af.mil/photos/mediagallery.asp Edited December 27, 2010 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. topol-m Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) What is written on the tank:huh:? Topol-m translate please. I can`t, it`s hard to recognize the kanji this far away and with this resolution. I recognize only one -"to go", "to take place". I asked Takashi, he`s japanese but he can`t read it all for the same reason, he recognizes "panther". Edited December 31, 2010 by topol-m [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
