bsohi Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Alright, I'm having serious trouble engaging targets with my missiles and rocket pods. I switch to them using the Y and I keys, but they just don't fire. When I switch back to cannon, it fires perfectly. Yes, I have a target locked, but I don't know what else I need to be doing.
GGTharos Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Meet firing parameters - those are displayed in the HUD. Make certain your laser is in standby mode. Your master arm needs to be on. Line up 'the thing in the thing' ;) Hold down the launch button, don't just tap it. Safari Ken Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It's strange your rockets don't fire; it's not like they have much in the way of launch requirements. Are you trying to fire them with the same button with which you fire the cannon? The cannon trigger is separate from the other weapons.
nomdeplume Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I think the other posts should hold the answer. The most likely is that you're using the canon fire button instead of the weapons release button (on my X52, the default cannon fire button is the trigger, weapons release is the Fire button under the flippy lid). I'm not really sure why they're separate since the cannon won't fire unless you enable the cannon mode, in which case your regular weapons won't fire. But that's just how it is. The other thing is that in the default auto targeting mode, your weapons release button doesn't fire the weapon, but instead gives consent for the targeting system to release it when it's good and ready. You'll know you're within parameters when you get the "C" symbol appear on the HUD and Shkval displays. The parameters differ a bit between weapons, for Vikhr you need to align the circle that appears on the HUD when you select the Vikhrs with the Shkval sensor circle (i.e. "put the thing on the thing"), and you need to be within range (around 6 to 7km max) but not too close (can't remember the minimum range, but if you're that close you'll be using cannon anyway - or being shot down). You also need to be above a certain altitude if I recall correctly, but I've never had issues with that. When you want to fire and you have the "C" cue, hold the button down until the weapon releases. If you have your burst length set to 'long' it'll release 2 Vikhrs if you keep the button depressed long enough (and you keep the thing on the thing). Helpful for strong tanks that need two hits to destroy.
bsohi Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Oh man, silly old me. Yes, I was using the cannon fire button to fire the missiles too... Feel mighty stupid right abouts now. Thanks for the help guys.
OJDee Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 You could try flicking the Weapon Mode from Auto to manual (last switch on left next to all other weapon switches) and see if that fixes your problem. This is just so you can see if its a launch requirment issue, you don't really want it in manual all the time. I had some trouble getting mine to launch without going manual but since watching the directors note on weapons again I was reminded of a few other requirements to allow firing in auto mode. As mentioned above, for Vikhr you need to have the missile circle over the locked target circle too. You should get a C on the hud when the weapon is allowed to fire, do you ever see this? Thanks for the help guys. If you want that kind of behaviour (it's like that in the real thing, you only flip a cover to switch from rockets to cannon), there's a nifty little tutorial on editing the according lua parameter in the user faq thread. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Doctor_Rob Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009  I've been struggling with this sim for days, and have yet to launch a missile! Basically, I'm having big problems launching an ATGM. I've got as far as setting-up the Shkval ATGM for the shot. I'm not using the helmet mounted sight, but am using the tv screen thing to aim. The target is 'locked', but the HUD won't display the 'current range to target' ring, nor will it give the 'C' launch permission..... HELP!

Doctor_Rob Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 :smartass: Yay! Thanks for that. Finally got it to work. Darn laser... Now I feel like I'm getting somewhere.
