NightstalkerNOR Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Had a flight where the INS-alignement got degraded due to me failing to understand where in the process it was. -Is there a way to understand how much progress has been in the alignement process, and; -What to do if the alignment fails?
Solution Zabuzard Posted May 23, 2024 Solution Posted May 23, 2024 (edited) There is no way to see how much the INS has aligned already (also not for the WSO). If you mess up your alignment, the WSO has to turn off the INS Power Knob and the Navigation Panel Mode. Then you have to wait around 5 minutes for the gyros to fully spool down (no indication for that). Then make sure to have the proper own-aircraft position entered on the Nav Panel. At that point, you can re-start the alignment process by moving the Navigation Panel Mode to Standby and then the INS Power Knob up again. Details in the manual. Edited May 23, 2024 by Zabuzard 1

This is version 0.1 of INS, so only a couple of lights, and be thankful they tell you anything. The start-up process for the INS is OFF - > STBY, wait for HEAT light, then STBY -> ALIGN and wait for green light to start blinking, then select NAV. From my testing, using "stored alignment" mode in the mission editor, it takes about 2.5 minutes for the INS to align. Note also that I disabled Jester prior to powering anything. So from what I understand is that without a human WSO I have to shut it down myself and start the process up again manually. Is that correct?

Excellent, thanks for picking up the thread I read somewhere about this feature but have not tried it out yet. Will do!
Mumby Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Related to the original question: I found it really useful to learn that when the INS alignment is complete Jester will turn on the RWR. So I don’t turn that on as part of my front cockpit checklist anymore, when I see the RWR panel light up I know I can taxi. Hopefully jester continues to do that! 1

Jester also says "Alignment complete, you can select Primary Reference now." Or something like that to let you know that the alignment is complete, he has put the INS to NAV and you can put the Reference System Selector Switch to Primary position.Sent from my FP4 using Tapatalk
