It seems to me that accurate control of the Shkval is very important, particularly in dicey situations. The real control as I understand it is a pressure-sensitive directional pad, which seems to give the pilot very precise control (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEHJc1pTkHc).

At the moment I'm using the main hat switch on my X52 to control it by simulating the keystrokes. It's okay when you're chilling out a few kms from the target and can take your time, but pretty much impossible to lock fast-moving targets.

As an experiment I also mapped the "Absolute SHKVAL Horizontal Slew" to the large rotary on the throttle, and the vertical slew to the small rotary. While inconvenient to use, the analog control does make it much easier to use the Shkval in certain situations.

So the question is: has anyone come up with a good way to quickly and accurately slew the Shkval?

The newer Saitek profiling software lets you set up the mouse stick on the throttle as an axis controller, but I can't seem to find any way to get the game to recognise it. Anyone had any luck with that?

Or, should I just learn to love the HMS? I find it's convenient to get the sensor near my target (using TrackIR) but you can't really use it to get a lock.

In particular, I hate running up against helicopters because getting the cursor over them is nearly impossible.

I use keyboard directional arrows for SHKVAL movement and a button on the Saitek Evo Force for lock. The problem with this is that I don't have collective when I try to lock but most of the time I am in hover. I couldnt find any other way to do it as the hat on my stick is not precise.

Now that i built a new pc i will try the hat on the stick as i dont get any slow downs when i operate SHKVAL and it may work.

i use the hat switch on the x52 throttle works but the roller is a good idea

I tried using the two throttle rollers (because I can't think of another use for them in BS), but I found it wasn't very intuitive, and that I could do it faster if I just used the hat. So I use the HMS to get real close (thanks again, TrackIR), and then do the fine tuning with the hat. That works really well, even on airborne targets. I doubt there's anything that can make airborne locks easy, so merely possible is good enough for me. :)

I'm using the thumbstick on the Cougar throttle. The stick is analogue, and for a while I tried to use it as such (mapping the axis in the axis configuration of Black Shark) but it never worked very well. The behaviour was very strange, in that it sometimes was moving too fast, and sometimes I wasn't able to make it move fast enough.

I ended up not using the analogue control and simply configure the it to behave like a standard hat-switch (mapping the directions to the keyboard controls). It works pretty well, and just like you, I use the HMS for approximate positioning and then use the thumbstick for the precise movements.

in lomac I used the mini-mouse to control shkval in the tfrog...since it is analog, it was excellent for fine control and fast scrolling too.

It wold probably make the bast control method in BS too, but you kinda need to to click around the cockpit .... dang it ...cant have cake and eat it too!

I'm using one of them for the throttle, and the other for view zooming.

Are you using that throttle regularly or solely as an emergency measure? 'Cause I'd say the only time I would imagine wanting to control the throttle is if the EEGs get destroyed.

Oh, yeah, I do that with the mouse, but good point. (I'm slightly limited since I use a Cyborg Evo so a lot of these things never enter my mind.)

I personally used the mouse mini-stick of my X-52.

But not as an axis(doesn't work correctly->stutter movement).

I programmed it in the STT-Software with axis-zones and put the keyboard arrows in it.

I also have the TrackIR - pause function on the HOTAS, so I can move my head near to the Shkval monitor and then pause the TrackIR for better sight.

I use the hat on the trottle on the X52...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
