markturner1960 Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 I know the accepted wisdom on this is that you should use glasses or lenses if you are long sighted - short sighted is not a factor. I have to wear glasses for reading as well as at long distance, although my prescription is not massive, I have astigmatism . I use 3 different prescriptions, one for close up reading like books or iPad, one for mid distance, around 4 - 5 feet, for PC screens on a desk and then there is my long distance one. I can fit glasses easily under my quest pro and have tried them all, without any noticeable improvement in what I see. Yet apparently I should be using them. In the past with my old G2 headset, I got some lenses which were supposed to be optimised for about 6 foot focal length, but again, I never felt they helped. I don’t have a noticeably bad visual experience, looks pretty damn good, but I wonder why I don’t get a better experience using glasses? Anyone got any input on this ? Qcumber Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 I am short sighted and without glasses or lens inserts everything is very blurred for me. I don't like wearing glasses with a headset so I always use prescription inserts. They also help protect the headset lenses from accidental damage. 1 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
Mr_sukebe Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 If you need glasses to drive, then chances are they’d help in flying in VR. Don’t try to use a set of glasses that you might use for close up reading. Been there, done that, doesn’t work. My opinion is to use lens inserts, which are IMO far more comfortable and avoid the potential that lenses in glasses have for scratching the lenses in your Pro (did that on my CV1). 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
speed-of-heat Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Lens inserts are the correct answer .. don't use varifocals also depending on your headset/prescription your glasses may be more expensive than your headset ... diego999 Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 As others suggest, use lens inserts. They're very good and cheap enough. From what I read the focal point of most VR headsets is around 1-1.5m, so your reading glasses won't help while playing.
Ahdidaas Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Another +1 for inserts. I have a quest pro and am nearsighted. The lens are fantastic, and I love not having to wear glasses under the headset.

WipeUout Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 (edited) Same issue, short and long distance plus astigmatism. I used to sim with my myopic and astigmatism correclted glasses, not short or pregressive, and thought it was fine. Then I got a pair of VR rock and the imporvement was significant both for comfort and sharpness. My HMD is pretty big and with a 15mm foam there is sufficient space for glasses but with the VR Rock it is so much more comfortable on long sessions. VR Rock was a good 130 bucks investment for me. Mistermann Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 A different perspective for you @markturner1960. I am nearsighted, have an astigmatism AND have presbyopia. I can't use VR without some sort of correction. Over the years, I purchased smaller framed glasses specifically for VR and that's worked well. Last Christmas, my wife got me VR Rock - unfortunately the experience was less than desired. Definitely worse than my glasses. However I learned when ordering the VR rock inserts that I shouldn't try to correct for the presbyopia. I ordered a new set of glasses that are light weight and only used for VR that corrected only my nearsightedness and astigmatism. Works incredibly well. There's zero fit issues.
