DmitriKozlowsky Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 What is that mystery fairing under cockpit ? ECM? Laser spotter? Photo recce? I just noticed it on F1EE when using it in South Atlantic.
DmitriKozlowsky Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 Small item. The above pic shows my favorite AG loadout, as we don't have AG missiles. Two F1 36 rocket pods with Large Warhead HE, one 18 rocket F4 pod with Lg Warhead HE, BORAX ECM pod, 2 X R5502, centerline tank, and 70% int fuel. Attack profile 1800 to 3000 feet above target, 15 deg dive, 420 KIAS, 50 sight depression. Relatively accurate with large dispersion of salvo.
drPhibes Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 It looks a lot like the panoramic camera described here: https://www.airvectors.net/avmirf1.html 1

We may be looking at variant botchup of CR geometry used for F1EE. But I don't know. Web photos of F1EE do not show it.
ftmch Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 If you check the name of the livery you should find it says Quote (Fictional CT) Somewhere on it. The livery is an F1EE dressed up as an F1CT. The pod is non-functional. 2
DmitriKozlowsky Posted May 29, 2024 Author Posted May 29, 2024 I see, the fairing appear with CT liveries. So does that mean that livery has a displacement map for the fairing. Or do liveries also carry additional polygon geometry with them. I thought hat liveries were textures only. I guess I have some more to learn.
Bremspropeller Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 (edited) It's actually a CR fairing. CT fairings also exist and yes, they're controlled via the skin. There are also other arguments controlled by the skin, like the dorsal fairing at the root of the vertical stabilizer and the raised nav lights on the wingtips. DmitriKozlowsky Posted May 29, 2024 Author Posted May 29, 2024 According to all knowing all wise Wikipedia F1CT was an advanced close air suppourt upgrade to French AF F1C's. So that fairing contains a laser spotter and low power laser designator. Since its nonfunctonal, in DCS, I hope that it is invisible to flight model and thus does not cause drag and fuel penalty.
fausete Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 The pod is an argument in the 3D model of the F1 that is controlled by the livery. This is done to be able to have different AI versions without needing a specific edm for each AI model, so if a livery of an AI model is used with a flyable model, no extra drag or weight are accounted for. 3
