I've noticed in the producers notes on the Datalink that Matt sends one of his wingmen to a specific point brought up on the ABRIS (1:44 into the video). Now how does he get these "target points" into the nav system in the first place ? Is this something that has to be put into the mission itself, or do I punch them in manually , either through the ABRIS itself or the PVI-800 system ?

I've tried making a marker with the Shkval (using the 3rd button - the square between the AA and the ingress point buttons) but my wingnuts refuse to go to the designated point. Although I can get them to use ingress points and attack designated targets.

I get the whole datalink thing except for this one thing, one of the most usefull things to be sure. Seems to me this little feature would alow you to pre-position your wingmen before engagement.

I'm sure this is covered somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. Any links, page numbers from the manual, would be greatly appreciated.

On another note, I must say this is the best $39.00 I've spent in a long time. I haven't had this much fun since LOMAC came out. Good job ED. Good job on getting it to D2D.

If you want to use target points, those are stored in the PVI. You can put them in the mission editor, but you can also create them in mission. Here's the procedure for creating one and sending it to a wingman:

1.) Set PVI to EDIT mode

2.) Set Overfly/Shkval switch to Shkval position

3.) Hit TP button on PVI

4.) Select the number you would like coordinates to be entered as (1-10)

5.) Uncage Shkval, locate spot on ground you would like to use (remember, if you are using ABRIS to figure it out, make sure you lase the ground BEFORE you settle on your point, this will make the yellow brackets more geographically accurate). Lase the spot (oh yeah, make sure your lasers on standby)

6.) Press "Cage Shkval" button

7.) You will now see coordinates on the PVI, as well as the yellow "Enter" Button will be illuminated

8.) Hit enter to store solution

9.) Reset targeting system

Now to send it to a wingman:

1.) Put PVI in "Oper" mode

2.) select TP button on PVI

3.) Select the # of the TP you would like to transmit

4.) You will see the TP flashing on your ABRIS

5.) Press the # of the wingman on the datalink panel, then the "Send/Mem" button

6.) Order your wingman to the target point via radio

Hope this helps!

Did you "lock" with your shkval (laser should be on)?

Than press "other target", memory, reset.

Than select "other target" (it should be blinking), wingman number, memory.

Now radio your wingman go to datalink pt.

I can't get this to work so I'm probably misunderstanding something. This is what I do and what happens:

1. Puts laser into stand by mode

2. Puts PVI into "EDIT" mode.

3. I set the "NAV/INU fix taking method" to Shkval (it's there by default)

4. I hit the "NAV TGT" button on the PVI panel

5. I press the number for my new TP (example: "2")

6. I press "O" to uncage the Shkval.

= Nothing happens (it can't be uncaged while in PVI Edit mode it seems)

I start over, this time with the Shkval uncaged before setting PVI into EDIT mode.

6. I slew the Shkval to the spot I wanna have as TP and then designates it twice (according to manual).

=Nothing happens

7. Press "Targeting mode reset" (BACKSPACE) to cage the Shkval

=Nothing happens

8. Press ENTER on PVI panel

=Nothing happens

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

Read chapters 7-5 through 7-7 in the pilot's manual. It covers both creating TP's with the PVI, as well as with the Shkval & ABRIS.

I did and you can see in my description above how I interpreted the manual. Obviously I did misunderstand some part but I can't figure out which one. That's why I came to the forums ... :helpsmilie:

This is the text from the manual (p. 311-312) on how to designate a TP using the Shkval:

Shkval Target Point Designation

1. Ensure that the "ИЗЛ-ОТКЛ" (Laser standby ON/OFF) switch on the Targeting Mode Controls panel is set to the "ИЗЛ" (Laser standby ON) position.

2. Set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "ВВОД" (Enter) position.

3. Set the "И-251В – ПРОЛ" (INU fix-taking method) switch to the "И-251В" (I-251V Shkval) position.

4. Press the "ОТ" (Target point) push-light button.

5. Select the TP number you wish to assign from the key pad (1-10).

6. Press the "ЦУ" (Uncage Shkval) button on the cyclic.

RADIO COMMUNICATIONS 7–6

7. Use the sensor slew hat to align the HUD cursor with target point area, and then locate it on the Shkval display.

8. Place the Shkval target box over the target point area, adjust the gate size and press the "АВТ ЗАХВ" (Automatic target lock) button on the collective. The range to target area will now be displayed on the TVM screen.

9. Press the "ЦУ" (Designate target) button on the cyclic a second time and the target‟s coordinates will appear on the Navigation Control panel display. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol will display on the HUD.

10. Press the "ВВОД" (Enter) button on the Navigation Control panel again and the derived coordinates will be entered as the TP coordinates in the navigation system. The "ОТ" (Target point) symbol on the HUD will go out.

11. After creating this new TP, set the Mode selector dial on the Navigation Control panel to the "РАБ" (Work) position. On the Targeting Mode Controls panel, press the "СБРОС" (Targeting mode reset) button.

Note that in step 2 it instructs us to set the PVI to the "Enter" position. Is that a typo? I assume it should've been "Edit" position. Just pressing the "Enter" button doesn't do anything at that stage.
