Jeb Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 looked around the forum and cant really find info i was looking for. here goes, I have 800 dollars to purchase a GPU, I can get a brand new 7900xt today for 773.. or wait and get a 4070tis for 849. only do 1440P flat screen as I dont have a VR headset but have access to one if i decide to go that route. I see a solid 60fps on any MP servers even with lots of people with my 2070s now and most of the settings are ultra or high, I have the DCS fps locked at 60. I don't use this computer except surf , you tube, and DCS only. no other games are installed I9-9900k, 32MB,RX7900xt, 2560x1440 165hz monitor, track IR, Grass Monkey wireless Puck, Virpil T50-CM3, Winwing Superlibra stick with Hornet and Viper grip, Winwing Orion2 with Hornet, and F15E grip, Winwing PTO, home made 2060 mounts, Virpill ACE interceptor pedals
NAM Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Even on my AMD 6900XT 16Gb perform very well in DCS. In my HP G2, I can get average 60fps in most of time. AMD 7900XT has more memory 24Gb and 10-15% faster than my 6900XT. Personally I would choose 7900XT ove 4070ti. However, if you also have msfs2020, then 4070ti is better choice.

Do you want a very familiar experience to what you have had with the RTX2070S, usage wise, but better and with a LOT more performance? If so, get the RTX 4070Ti Super 16GB. Do you feel like changing to something different, with no problems to quickly adapt to unfamiliar things? If so, the RX 7900XT 20GB may be right for you. Both are really good GPUs, they're more or less equivalent, and any of the two will be awesome for DCS at 1440P (even 4K). The 4070Ti Super has GDDR6X, which is faster memory. But it has less of it as you may have noticed (16GB versus 20GB GDDR6 of the RX 7900XT). It does have lower power consumption and also generally runs cooler than the RX7900XT. But none of this is a deal breaker, what I'd say is to pay attention to what model you get, whichever way you decide to go (and promotions do happen). If you're in the US, search them in https://pcpartpicker.com/ Among so much information around, there's a fella that condenses info and details between models, to resume data for direct comparisons. I personally like the format he has chosen to provide it. May be worth a glance before pulling the trigger: (note: a great deal of info on these older 4070Ti 12GB models still applies to the newer 4070Ti Super 16GB model replacements) Edited June 14, 2024 by LucShep 1 CGTC - Caucasus retexture | A-10A cockpit retexture | Shadows Reduced Impact | DCS 2.5.6 - a lighter alternative Spoiler Win10 Pro x64 | Intel i7 12700K (OC@ 5.1/5.0p + 4.0e) | 64GB DDR4 (OC@ 3700 CL17 Crucial Ballistix) | RTX 3090 24GB EVGA FTW3 Ultra | 2TB NVMe (MP600 Pro XT) + 500GB SSD (WD Blue) + 3TB HDD (Toshiba P300) + 1TB HDD (WD Blue) | Corsair RMX 850W | Asus Z690 TUF+ D4 | TR PA120SE | Fractal Meshify-C | UAD Volt1 + Sennheiser HD-599SE | 7x USB 3.0 Hub | 50'' 4K Philips PUS7608 UHD TV + Head Tracking | HP Reverb G1 Pro (VR) | TM Warthog + Logitech X56

The overall memory bandwidth is higher as a result. However, focusing on these specific differences is not really all that useful, as performance is a complex interplay of various parts.

Jeb Posted June 16, 2024 Author Posted June 16, 2024 this 7900xt is a warm and loud card if i run max FPS slider, will see around ~350watts/ 65degrees, and 150FPS, so I lock it at 90-100 and 250 watts. not really sure what settings, but I have been playing around with. when I put the DCS frame counter I see CPU bound in yellow and FPS limit/ rendering thread. It is a beast of a card. if anybody has any setting i should use let me know. tks...... Yep, RX 7900XT runs pretty hot, but responds well to undervolting - this video tutorial may interest you: youtube.com/watch?v=2aCCaIx5Kk0&t=250s 2 CGTC - Caucasus retexture | A-10A cockpit retexture | Shadows Reduced Impact | DCS 2.5.6 - a lighter alternative Spoiler Win10 Pro x64 | Intel i7 12700K (OC@ 5.1/5.0p + 4.0e) | 64GB DDR4 (OC@ 3700 CL17 Crucial Ballistix) | RTX 3090 24GB EVGA FTW3 Ultra | 2TB NVMe (MP600 Pro XT) + 500GB SSD (WD Blue) + 3TB HDD (Toshiba P300) + 1TB HDD (WD Blue) | Corsair RMX 850W | Asus Z690 TUF+ D4 | TR PA120SE | Fractal Meshify-C | UAD Volt1 + Sennheiser HD-599SE | 7x USB 3.0 Hub | 50'' 4K Philips PUS7608 UHD TV + Head Tracking | HP Reverb G1 Pro (VR) | TM Warthog + Logitech X56

I dropped 19°C and gain 20% clocks/performance by under volting my brothers 7900XTX, also dropped roughly 45W load. 1 Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Jeb Posted September 12, 2024 Author Posted September 12, 2024 found out the loud fan noise I thought it was the GPU but nope, the 750W PSU was my culprit, really started to look into it the other day. picked up a new RM1000x PSU yesterday and installed it this morning. So with 310watts on the GPU and what even the rest of the computer is using I dont hear that fan at all. even pushing 165FPS up high and down low 100fps, in a MP server with lots of action I9-9900k, 32MB,RX7900xt, 2560x1440 165hz monitor, track IR, Grass Monkey wireless Puck, Virpil T50-CM3, Winwing Superlibra stick with Hornet and Viper grip, Winwing Orion2 with Hornet, and F15E grip, Winwing PTO, home made 2060 mounts, Virpill ACE interceptor pedals
