Radar display and modes

Hi all,

I'm learning the Hornet and right now I am focused on understanding the air to air radar.

I would say that's a pretty complex radar compared to other modules (see F-16 or the F-15E).

I've looked for a chart with all AA radar modes and their submodes and how to switch from one mode to another, more or less like this one, but I found none:

Reading Chuck's guide I have seen that basically the main modes are:

BVR: RWS, TWS, VS, LTWS

ACM: GACQ, BST, VACQ, WACQ, HACQ, LHACQ

AACQ: AACQ

STT: STT

It would be nice to see a chart that show from the main mode which submode you have and how to enter that mode.

Regarding the radar display, it is correct that all the search and track modes that I have in the usual B-scope, are also available when in AZ/EL display ?

Yes, you have the same designation and STT capability on the Attk, AZ/EL and SA. (Via TDC)

@Bunny Clark has a chart showing all of the HOTAS functions which might help.

Now for specifics:

BVR:
RWS initialized radar mode, PB 5 to toggle between TWS

TWS accessed through PB 5, TDC over PB 5 text, or PB 10 in STT

VS exclusively via TDC over PB 5 label

LTWS it's a misnomer. Not a radar mode at all, just a display function. (Shows track file data for a TUC in RWS. Default)

ACM: SCS FWD changes SCS to ACM logic

GACQ Gun acquisition, commanded when gun is selected. Enters ACM.

BST SCS FWD with HMD off

VACQ SCS AFT with HMD off, or AFT from WACQ with HMD/9X

WACQ SCS left
HACQ SCS FWD with HMD
LHACQ SCS FWD long

AACQ/FACQ: SCS toward the radar display. Commands STT on the highest priority track, the L+S, or the first contact detected.

FACQ same as above, but is when the TDC is over a track/hit. Takes priority over AACQ

STT: STT commanded via
SCS AACQ/FACQ
TDC depress on L+S or hit
Cage/uncage with sparrow selected

RAID: Rapid Assessment
Commanded with RAID/FLIR FOV switch in TWS/STT. Or, automatically in STT with 1Look.

SPOT: RWS/TWS space stabilized narrow search commanded with TDC depress long.

Just to understand.... each sub-mode can be entered from either RWS and TWS ? (apart from LTWS which is a RWS only thing)
