Just got a Quest 3 yesterday and trying to play catch up. While I have seen many screen shots of the device settings, I hadn't seen 120Hz listed.

This is my settings screen shot... Did they recently increase it?

@Sr.

My google search came up with that it can run at 120Hz on QuestLink since around March.

Doesn‘t have much relevance for DCS though I guess, since the hardware to run DCS at 120FPS in VR doesn‘t exist yet.

Ok, best I can tell from the ODT I have ASW disabled, Refresh rate set at 72Hz under graphics Preferences. However in DCS with the frame rate counter running it shows 36.

Is there something I need to reset? I had been using a profile earlier under the Oculus Tray tool but that isn't even running.

I think for some reason turning it on and off like that doesn‘t work very reliable anymore. Personally I don‘t mind because I prefer if it actually kicks in when I drop below native refresh.

In OTT you can assign hotkeys to cycle through the different ASW methods (including. OFF). Maybe try if that works.

Got it sorted... I think I got a little mouse pointer happy when adjusting DCS VR settings and dragged over to 1.5

Next stupid question...

I'm trying out Virtual Desktop... holy cow what an app!

Tutorials mention launching your games from within VD control panel. How do I add stand alone DCS to the list? So far I can only lunch via Steam VR.

I‘m running DCS stand alone. All I can say is that after I launched it from the actual virtual desktop it then appeared in the virtual desktop app games menu the next time. Worked either way though.

Btw. make sure you try hand passthrough with the Quest and VD. It is awesome! The passthrough options alone make it soooo much better than my old Index (apart from the ease of use and visual clarity!)

You don't for DCS. That list is for SteamVR games and does not include OpenXR games.

That list is for compatible games that can VD can "inject" into their runtime (I need to refresh my memory on the more technical description), but is not like how you can add non-Steam games to your Steam library.

These settings good?

What CODEC is preferred with DCS?

Given you're on a Quest 3 try AV1. Alternatively h.264+.

Really comes down to your preference and performance.

This is from the Virtual Desktop Discord:

  • H.264: has the lowest latency but not as efficient as the other codecs
  • H.264+: has higher bitrate limit; good for racing or fast-paced games but requires ideal network conditions
  • HEVC: has improved efficiency (looks better at the same bitrate compared to H.264) but takes a bit more time to encode/decode
  • AV1: has best efficiency but requires Nvidia 4000 or AMD 7000 series GPU and a Quest 3
  • 10-bit encoding: improves color gradients, recommended for darker/slower games

I would recommend posting an image of the in game overlay. This is enabled in the streaming options tab. That way we can see your bitrate and latencies etc. The best codec can depend on your bitrate. For example, I use h264+ with my Quest Pro. The max bitrate I can get with my router setup is about 300-350 Mbps but the decoding latency is about 13-14ms. At 200 Mbps I get a decoding latency of 8-10 ms and overall a much smoother experience.

Will take a few more after meeting using other codecs.

Your decoding latency is a bit high so you might try reducing the bitrate to 150, or perhaps try h264+ at 200. Have you tried enabling video buffering? This gives a smoother experience.

Is that a representative test situation for you? i.e. is this average performance or is it in a stress situation? If the former then I would suggest reducing some graphics settings as your game latency is quite high.

@Sr.

Also your graphic setting being at „Godlike“ is a bit too bold with a 4080, I would argue.

Even on this screenshot your FPS is at 70, hence doesn‘t meet the 72Hz refresh rate…and you are only parked at the ramp.

Godlike is OK but only with QVFR. Full frame at Godlike taxes even a 4090.

As far as link cable world...what would be the recommended settings ODT or should I be using the Tray tool?

Most of this looks OK. I prefer to set distortion curvature to normal and sharpening to "quality". You could try setting the FOV multiplier to 0.92, 0.92. Have you tried pushing the Bitrate to 960 Mbps?

Thanks

I tried 960 but I get static, janky sound.

I think I'm lucky. Most people report 960 is too much.
