Keith Briscoe Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Hi. I recently got my Pimax Crystal Light. As I researched settings, I came to understand that using Quad Views was generally recommended, so I have that enabled in the PimaxXr tool. I also understood, and followed the directions to go back to "default" settings in OpenXR toolkit. Stuff is generally working fine in DCS. Just wondering if there are some settings in OpenXR (accessed while in game) that I should or cannot use? For example, is it recommended to use CAS for sharpening and/or the fixed foveated rendering? for reference, I have 14900 and 4090 with 64gb RAM. Thanks.
Phantom711 Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Using Quad Views on a crystal light basically is a form of Fixed Foveated Rendering but uses another technique. QVFR is more efficient in relieving your GPU but also puts some more workload on your CPU than the FFR that you can chose in OXR toolkit. QVFR also already has some sharpening build in, but you can put CAS on top of it or use it instead. Just give it a try, it doesn‘t do harm. vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Chief_Biv Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 Use Quadviews for your FFR and turn it off in OpenXR Toolkit. To be honest I would experiment with sharpening in the DCS settings or OpenXRToolkit, but not both. Pick the one you think gives the best result. I would also leave any upscaling to those that come in the game and leave this off in the Toolkit. I don't think I use the Toolkit settings for anything other than colour balance anymore. All of the other settings in the Toolkit are either now provided in-game or in Pimax Play or in Quadviews. Have fun with it. At least you have a 4090 to drive it. It should be great. WipeUout Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 If you want to use CAS sharpening, the OXRTK CAS is more efficient for the same result as using it in QVFR. Do not use sharpening in DCS settings as it is less efficient than CAS in OXRTK also. OXKTR CAS is even lowering GPU frametime compared to not using any sharpening!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9800X3D, RTX 4090, 96GB DDR 5, MSI Tomahawk 870E, Crucial 2TB x 2, TM WARTHOG COMBO + PENDULAR RUDDER PEDALS, THE AMAZING PIMAX 8K X, Sony 5.1 Spks+SubW | DCS, A-10C_II, AH-64D, F-14/15E/16/18, F-86F, AV-8B, M-2000C, SA342, Huey, Spitfire, FC3.

Did some testing and the OXRTK CAS offers better performance than the two other sharpening options by an average of 0.5 ms less on the GPU frametime. Let me know if you see similar results on your system. 0.5ms is quite a lot when in VR and trying to squeeze every ounce of performance to get good visuals. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9800X3D, RTX 4090, 96GB DDR 5, MSI Tomahawk 870E, Crucial 2TB x 2, TM WARTHOG COMBO + PENDULAR RUDDER PEDALS, THE AMAZING PIMAX 8K X, Sony 5.1 Spks+SubW | DCS, A-10C_II, AH-64D, F-14/15E/16/18, F-86F, AV-8B, M-2000C, SA342, Huey, Spitfire, FC3.
