How about an alternate AAR mode for basket refuelers, where the hose is always out and anyone can come in and plug, at any time, as long as the tanker is on station? IRL, that's more or less how it's done. No annoying tanker comms or fiddling with the menu while trying to hold formation, just fly up to it and plug.

Well, I haven't seen any of those discussions, so clearly it needs more exposure. 🙂 ED said how they operate, give the thread a lot of stars, make a lot of replies, and they'll consider it. There seems to be no good reason not to add it, unless ED gave one. It could easily be a waypoint action. I sure don't know of any arguments against it other than "ED didn't bother adding it".

One potential problem is that when you look at how the basket behaves, it's clearly the same code they used for the boom, just with different values. It's particularly obvious when you near the edges of the box, the basket will float off the probe a little, but if you manage to correct that, it'll reconnect. However, I don't see how that would prevent making a command for automatic refueling, especially as there's usually only one aircraft anywhere near the connection point. In fact, it means any solution for baskets would also work for boom refueling.

Already been discussed and the dead horse died gazillion times already.
I might have misunderstood, but @Dragon1-1 is not asking for automatic refueling, is he? Even if it was mentioned in his reply to you. Even so, if what he writes is correct. This might be the easiest way to implement such a thing, and "could" make some users happy. A command like "snap to probe". Which could be a core/server/mission setting.
In anycase I rated this 5 stars.

From the 1st post: I think all the OP is asking for is to not have to CALL the tanker to get them to put out the basket or get cleared pre-contact.  Just to be able to fly up the tanker that already has basket out and be able to normally catch the basket and fuel (which currently requires at least 2 radio calls).  I don't think he's asking for any difference in the actual mechanics of refuelling other than COMMS.  I have no idea if this would be done IRL so I can't comment on that.

From the 2nd post: I would interpret that completely differently to what's asked for in the 1st (appears 2nd is asking for "auto" refuel and that poor horse has been beaten thoroughly) so the OP maybe should clarify what they are actually after (or maybe both things)
