I agree the campaign is too fragile and unforgiving. It’s the triggers and sequence requirements that cause the missions to get hung up and turn “fun” into “frustrating”. As an example, complete pre-start checks, engine start “by the book” but a trigger is missed by me (out of order check who knows?) and the AI aircraft won’t taxi ahead of me. Mission won’t progress. This campaign is on rails and if you miss ONE thing out of order - it’s buggered. I’ve read some very positive comments but as a DCS player with +650 hours / this was not fun. Hugely disappointed. No, frustrated would be the better word. For now, I’m relying on DCS user files and hoping a good Yom Kippur campaign will release in the future. Reflected, the passion and commitment to realism is appreciated but the mission triggers are TOO uncompromising.

Hmm...my experience with this campaign has been quite the opposite. As regards to triggers, I found this campaign to be rock steady.

Regarding your problem of the AI not taxing ahead of you, does that happen while still on the ramp or while holding short? If you are still on the ramp, then you first need to finish the start-up of the aircraft. Once you do, you should get the message "Press spacebar to give a thumbs up" (or something like that). After pressing spacebar, the mission should proceed without a hitch. If you got stuck while holding short, then I guess you missed an item on the check list, which you can double-check on your kneeboard.

I'm sorry but it's not. You start up the jet however you like, all you need to do is to switch the nav system to PRIM when the INS is done, and you get the taxi comms. That you probably would anyway, otherwise your nav system won't be functional and I'm not sure how you can fly like that.

As for the taxi checks, I'm sorry but it's not that hard. 70% of the switches are already in the right position. and "Who knows what"? that "who knows what" is called out by Jester, lingers on screen in the form of a message for 1000 seconds, and if you're still not sure what to do you open the custom kneeboard, look up the checklist and there it is. You have about 400% more time to finish it than what's required. It's not rocket science. My statement above still stands. Trigger zones are 8 miles wide, even though IRL you need to follow departure procedures a lot more accurately than that. But if all this frustrates you then it's probably best if you play different kinds of missions.

I couldn't be clearer about my purpose: to build missions that are as study level as the modules, so in the process you can learn about not just the aircraft, but the environment it was flow in. You don't have to like this of course, but that's not my fault, that's personal preference.

If you DO want to learn and still don't know where you're stuck, I'm happy to help, I just need that aforementioned screenshot to figure out what you missed.

It’s a labour of love and you’re defensive of your work. That’s okay and that’s also understandable.

I'm sorry but it's not. ”

Don’t proceed to invalidate a subjective experience please. I’m just not a fan of the rigid mission “triggers” and that’s my preference. As I said above, I appreciate your dedication to realism and a “study level” experience and as I also said, there are lots of positive comments directed toward the campaign. My take was that it’s too uncompromising and I found it frustrating. Im laying out my feedback and take on this campaign. Anyone who reads this can make up their own decision.  Just so you don’t think I’m trying to “sewer you” - I bought “beware beware” lat year and really liked it. I’ll certainly consider other campaigns you release in the future.

What's the specific trigger that you find too rigid and uncompromising and why?

I love this campaign, great job, it's what I looking for.

Please run a slow repair and if it persists contact ED. I have no control of their campaign menu, I’ve heard about this happening sometimes. Oh and uninstall all unofficial mods.

My religion forbids me to install mods...

I'll try a slow repair

No joy. I have start the campaign from the beginning, will see

All I got from ED so far is that the problem is probably with your log file. But they didn’t say anything about the solution. Deleting it would possibly help but you also lose all your progress and stats

damn those logbug problems. The AH64-D campaign (not it itself cause its core related) has a lot of those too, especially if you have a draw or below 100% outcome and you want to refly. borkes up the whole campaign progress.

In that forum thread, user Trankiller posted a workaround which might work here too.

Find the logbook.lua in (sth like) C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\MissionEditor

Make a copy for your own safety !!!

If anything goes sideways, restore the copy. in my case i once altered sth wrongly and my whole logbook "profile" was gone...

Open the .lua with a text editor (recommend notepad++).

Search (left ctrl F) for "mig killers".

I already tried to alter mine (as example) to your needs - in this case completion of "01 FAM Flight". dont just copy past it all, that WONT work. Look for the correct parts that you need and replace them!

Hope it works!

Another way would be to scrap the [3] part and refly the FAM flight. it teaches you A LOT of things for later BFM and ACM - if you havent already flown it like multiple times 😉

cheers

It would be great if there was a highlight like during training missions what you are expected to check switch next, when Jester calls it.

I thought about that but decided against it. If you open the kneeboard there’s a copy of the checklist and after 1-2 missions it will become second nature. And from then on the highlights would be quite immersion breaking.

Just tried the first mission, and it quit, with a message that it failed to load the .miz file for the actual task. I'll run a repair and refly later, is anyone else getting this?

Posted (edited)

If you see this please send the log file to ED, I have no impact on whether the Load mission trigger works or not

Anyhow try emptying your fxo and metashaders folders and run a slow repair, because it never happened to me during testing, so maybe it's some sort of corruption.

Thanks a lot! Had the same problem. This solution worked for me!
