Ironhand Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) Sometime in the next several days, I’m going to be rebuilding my computer. Everything, except for a few drives and the case will be new. Is there anything special I need to do regarding DCS except to backup the Saved Games folder? One of the drives I’m putting back in is the DCS installation’s drive. You used to need to turn off all the modules. Is that still the case? Nevyn Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 In my experience there is no need to turn anything off, DCS will run from that drive no problem, in fact you could copy it to another drive and it will still run. Quite robust in that regard. 1
Slippa Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I’d shutdown all engines properly, close the canopy and put wheel chocks in place. Just to be on the safe side. Seriously, I haven’t disabled any modules whenever I’ve done a full re-install and they’ve all been as I left them and working ok. I don’t trust myself enough not to mess things up so I have an external SSD with my saved games folder on it as well as a ‘spare’ DCS Inputs folder. There’s something about your peripherals being given a fresh number that DCS recognises if you change your OS. Might be worth looking around for more on that, there are posts here somewhere on it.
Ironhand Posted August 17, 2024 Author Posted August 17, 2024 Thanks, folks, for the input. Yes, I’ll be copying DCS to a new PCIe drive later. @Slippa Quote …There’s something about your peripherals being given a fresh number that DCS recognises if you change your OS. Forgot to mention it. It’d be a PITA to have to redo every binding. 1 YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU1...CR6IZ7crfdZxDg _____ Win 11 Pro x64, Asrock Z790 Steel Legend MoBo, Intel i7-13700K, MSI RKT 4070 Super 12GB, Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 32GB.

If reinstalling Windows at the same time you might want to find and backup the Eagle Dynamics registry entries too. DCS doesn't use these, but some 3rd party auxiliary software uses these entries to find DCS. VAICOMPRO for example. I'm Softball on Multiplayer. NZXT Player Three Prime, i9-13900K@3.00GHz, 64GB DDR5, Win 11 Home, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, TrackIR 5, VKB Gunfighter III with MCG Ultimate grip, VKB STECS Standard Throttle, CH Pro pedals

Yes, I’m planning to do a fresh Win 11 install instead of an upgrade from Win 10.
