les Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Hi all, We are looking to upgrade our quest 2 vr headsets at our air cadet unit, We generally don't have a good WiFi signal or internet and at some places like airshows we have no internet at all which causes us some issues! For that reason I was steering away from the quest 3 as we have a fair amount of problems with the pc link by cable.... My own quest 2 won't link up by cable at all any more! Any advice on headsets that are fairly trouble free when connected by cable? Ideally better than the quest 2, but equally we don't have the funds for pimax!! Any help appreciated as always

Gun Jam Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Hp Reverb G2. Use it on a PC that you wont update windows on when microsoft goes to kill off windows mixed reality. You probably can find them used for a fair price. 1

Phantom711 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 @les Wouldn‘t it be worth investigating first, why your cabled link doesn‘t work? Many people, me included operate a Quest with the cable usually without issues. Fair enough though, those problems did exist at least for a few days or even a few weeks this spring and if your business depends on it, I understand you might want to stay away from it. vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. les Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 Hi, Generally speaking the 4 stations we have work, but we have found the oculus wired connection to be very unreliable- you can update everything, check everything and it all works- the next day one of them just won't link up.... As I say my own quest 2 is great over a dedicated 5g router with virtual desktop but hasn't worked over a cable for more than a year..,. Three different cables tried, updates, reset the headset....nothing works.. Should have said, its a cadet base where I volunteer thats doing the upgrade, we have 4 laptops with q2 headsets and warthog controls running dcs..,I know everything is going wireless, I guess we would need a dedicated router for each station? To avoid problems..... Hadnt considered psvr, that could be interesting if the adapter works well?
Phantom711 Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 @les Out of curiosity…what is the exact „indication“ if the cabled link doesn‘t work? Do you use the original cable or aftermarket? Did the cable test ok on the speedtest? vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord.
les Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 The normal fault is that you click on launch and the screen briefly goes black with the three dots before returning to the headset screen. Or it will get stuck on the three dots and never get to the link environment - the grey grid....
