Owl Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I have noticed, that then I have been back on the base and rearmed the Ka-50 (with default load), I can fly to the front again, and maybe shoot 2-4 ground targets, but then after that, and I have locked a new target, there isn't comming the "c", and I can't fire the missile. There are still missiles to use, so I don't know that is wrong? I only have the problems, after I have rearmed the chopper, and got back on the battlefield again. As I said, there should still be missiles, I can find another ground target, and have no problems with locking it, but I never get the "c" in the HUD, and are not allowed to shoot.
Skydoc Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Hi Owl, The problem has to do with the laser overheating. Do a search on this forum about "laser burn out" or laser overheat and you will get a better explanation. The only thing you can (sometimes) do is go back to your original FARP and shut down the engines, after 5 minutes or so, you get a new bird, and everything is working again. Cheers, . Skydoc, out! Topgun505 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Is it possible to have the laser designator get knocked out by enemy fire? I was doing the single-player Battle mission last night and got a little too close to a LAV which took a dislike to my pitot tube/probe and surgically removed it with cannon fire. Afterwards I found that not only did my velocity indicator not function (of course), I also couldn't lase a target for ATGM fire as well. Considering the timing I don't know if it was just the laser got burnt out or if the LAV gunner managed to core out my designator. It could also be that you're too close to the target after awhile. The missiles have a suprisingly long minimum range. A couple of kilometers, if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes I'll drift into that range during an engagement, without realizing I'm so close. You'll know if your laser is burned out, or turned off, if you lock up the Shkval on something, but you don't get the numeric range info at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I'll go into battle and forget to turn the laser on, and the lack of range information is what clues me in on my mistake.
