  1. Hi Owl, The problem has to do with the laser overheating. Do a search on this forum about "laser burn out" or laser overheat and you will get a better explanation. The only thing you can (sometimes) do is go back to your original FARP and shut down the engines, after 5 minutes or so, you get a new bird, and everything is working again. Cheers,
  2. you could say "FFARs" for folding fin aerial rockets if you were westerner you might say "hydras"
  3. Is there a fix in there that will decrease the framerate hit for flares as well? They really bring my system to its knees.
  4. I'm with 9.2 on Vista 64 with a 4870 x2, seems smooth until I fire off a few flares...
  5. My instructor always had me focus on an object (not just the horizon) in the middle distance (a taller tree or building is good) becasue it helps with drift as well. We unfortunately lose a key assistant when hovering to land on on most PCs...peripheral vision. :-(
  6. Sorry, CSD, been away on a mission. You are every close, good eye! Its actually a 1983 Cat30 regular rig and keel.
  7....OTOH, I have been using Visat64's notepad without any problems editing these files. Just have to be careful about managing the extension labels.
  8. And that happened even with your "parking" brakes on?
  9. Cobras with TOWs had been hurting me quite often. Now I just stay in the weeds or put a hill between me and their likely approaches to avoid them. In addition to the AA button, there is the early detonation button for the Viikhr missle (forget the name but it is on the same panel as AA) which I usually turn on to ensure lots of fragments flying to the target, especially in zero aspect angle engagement.
  10. To take it a step further, I can't even think about a single "seat" helicopter in the military. There are some single pilot, but they usually have an observer on board with them (eg Gazelle, OH-58. But I am hard pressed to find any single seat helos out there. Columbia was using some KMAX helos, not sure if they are still in service. Of course the Navy (USMC) made an attempt to turn the K-1200 into a "no-seat" transport military helo...not sure how that worked out for them.
  11. Thanks for the help, Viper. I am out this week, so am virtually grounded. Will pick it up again in a few weeks - wah! BTW, shoot does not seem to work with vista64, another reason I was interested in this system.
  12. Hey I tried this but keep getting an error: Heard Command: Flight engage my targetProcessing: sendkeyAI \ delay 5 sendkeyAI F1 delay 5 sendkeyAI F1 delay 5 sendkeyAI f1PROCESSING: [COMMAND]=sendkeyAI [ACTION]=\ERROR IN FUNCTIONS/ACTIONS: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {1A671297-FA74-4422-80FA-6C5D8CE4DE04} failed due to the following error: 80040154. Any ideas?
  13. Sorry guys, as much as I love flying the 'Shark, I love my boat more, and my eight year old can handle the controls well enough... :pirate: Land ho, matys AVAST!
  14. if you are close enough, you can call tower and ask for a vector - there is a radio command for this, forget exactly what its called. Other option would be if your wingman is still alive, tell him to RTB and follow him. Sadly, I have had to use both of these techniques and they do work. HTH
  15. Can't help with all but: When you save your controller config, you choose the name so that one would be easy to find/back-up. It is a *.lua file (like so many others in this game.)
  16. Oh Joy! But then I will need some new workout program for my legs that have been dancing on the antitorque pedals every night...
  17. Completely agree. There is no easy way to do this, just loads of practice. The turn to target seems to be effected by your power settings (creating torque issues) and potentially even wind. If you trim your pedals just slightly off center to get your first shot centered, it tends to be good for the rest of your target in that general direction. Another option is to turn to the "auto-target" switch - the one that keeps you in parameter, forget the official name - then you can fire missles when they are not DEAD center and as long as you stay within 7 klicks or so within 15 degrees of center, the seeker will still take direction and find the target. I have had to do that on some very hasty attacks where I dont have time to diddle around with trim. One of the issues not yet mentioned in this thread about hovering is the deadly vortex ring. I have fallen into that trap too often. So be sure you have your descent rate under control before you get to the killing business, or you will just die. There is some airframe shudder that warns you about it, but it is often too late when you are low altitude. For practice, consider doing quickstops over your runway. Its a good coordination exercise. Once comfortable with those straight ahead, to quick stop 180s - where you enter downwind and then turn into the wind as you decelerate.
  18. That yawing is why I disable the yaw dampener/autopilot channel thing - maybe I shouldnt have called it dampener. It the channel for the anitorque. I have noted the caret moving trick as well. Having a play the other day with this function and leaving all trim channels engaged, I did a hands-off cyclic/feet off pedals landing, just collective to cushion the descent. The yaw channel kept me flying right down the center of the runway. You can also do this with the "turn to target" function engaged if there is a convienient target to lock up at the end of the runway. I found this to be a good exercise in understanding the trim capabilities and limits. But LastRR, just try turning off the yaw channel and see if it makes life easier or harder for you. I really "only" leave it on when in route autopilot and "turn to target" during attacks. HTH
  19. Close. Look under "AUDIO" and the slider "IN COCKPIT" In fact, one of the major issues with chopper pilots is hearing loss. The lab I work in specifically evaluates noise attenuation for the Army. Thus it would make sense to me that the helmets/earcups of BS aircrew would be properly insulated against noise...one reason the engine noise sound bug is somewhat annoying.
  20. Try disengaging the yaw dampener when you are not in autohover or route autopilot, I bet that will fix it - I found a similar problem. As a general rule, I do not land with yaw dampener on. Some folks have talked about using FD mode, but I have not played with it that much. Controlling the yaw manually works out fine for me. HTH
  21. My technique is to put the missile on your beam (3/9 o'clock) dive quickly toward the ground while launching flares on the side facing the incoming missile. If you can find a hill or even a hotel to hide behind, that is even better. Just watch for vortex ring - don't just dump collective in a hover; can't tell you how many times I have killed myself that way... Of course, as mentioned, knock out launchers frm a distance; but the little manpad guys are really hard to see! And if you order your wingmen to take out AA Threats, they do not kill manpads. The good news is that they havelimited ammo - three shots I think - and wingmen are pretty good and making the manpads fire off their stash...
  22. I believe many of the newer joysticks/controllers are USB devices and recognized as non-keyboards, hence the problem. The key thing for me now is simply the recognition of the problem the instant it occurs and slamming the keyboard spacebar to recover before I eat dirt or become a fireball.
  23. I know this is a bit smartaxe, but I just have one word for this: CHECKLIST. You gotta have'em and use'em. This sim is complex enough to actually require them to do things properly - at least the first month or so of flying.
  24. Exactly! Or behind. The real issue is that although you cannot see them thru the trees, they definitely see you...regardless of how thick the forest is. So it negates any tactical advantage to sliding form clearing to clearing and doing pop up attacks unless there is no forest in front of you. Sadly, i have learned to avoid using trees at all, in fact, I make a pint of setting up attacks where there are none because of the one way mirror effect they currently have. Love to see that fixed some time, but in the overall context of this great game, its a minor zit on your hot runway model girlfriend's behind - you learn to go with it!
