Zorrin Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Every self respecting pilot needs sheepskin seats! Make your stand and show Boris that you won't settle for this hard solid crappy ejection seat discomfort! Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
Schwinn Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Are you my wife? Lol she told me the same thing more or less this morning =) When I fly sims I can sit there for up to 8 hours sometimes and I am sure my butt would be thanking me hehe
-Bazong- Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Are you my wife? Lol she told me the same thing more or less this morning =) When I fly sims I can sit there for up to 8 hours sometimes and I am sure my butt would be thanking me hehe You're married and can fly up to 8 hrs!!? That really is amazing!!
Schwinn Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 She is a nurse and has been working 5 - 12 hour shifts in a row =) so lots of me time. My kids are 20 and 16. When we first married I used to play Airwarrior on Kesmai which I paid hourly for and logged over 500 hours one year (at 10.00 per hour - 6 for internet per hour and I am pretty sure 4 per hour for Airwarrior). She has allways told me she prefers me to have this hobby instead of muscle cars or drinking hehe =) I just wish I could get my kids into flight sims as it would be cool to have a gunner for that upcoming Apache sim =) LoL
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Oh now those are smooth all we need now is a big gold medallion and lots of chest hair!:megalol: http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Schwinn Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 On a side note I am going to build the base for this beast and I was wondering if anyone knows the measurement from the base of the pedestal (closest to seat) to the back wall?
Schwinn Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Finally figured out my collective friction (hand brake) problem. Stole some of Triggers design and it works perfectly. I will post some pics of the setup in a bit.
Schwinn Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Finally some more progress!!! Still needs sanding and finishing but hey one step closer. I ordered another Leo Bodnar board as well as hall effect sensors which I can't find anywhere close to me. I also ordered 50 square pushbutton switches like Oak and Trigger are using. The collective with the brake functioning =) The side of the collective box with the nylon strap I used for friction and super expensive copper gimbal ;) The back. The view from underneath the friction assembly. I wanted something super simple and effective. Three views of the left console. I am planning on using 22 gauge sheet metal to cover the round and top.
Triggerhappy69 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I am glad to see you've made it work..! And it seems to be a much simpler, more functional way than what I tried..! I'm naturally talking about the collective mechanism, and it' collective brake..! REALLY good work.. Keep them pics coming..! "But (504)Brewber said they were'nt friendly.. So I took'em out.!" CAT_101st Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 good Idea. nice work indead Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. Schwinn Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Here are a few of the pieces placed on the base. It all still needs sanding painting....I am forgetting something...OH SWITCHES =\ lol. I need to make the collective stick longer and I need to get a new seat. I may have to breakdown and build one because the one I have is too wide.
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Awesome work man, you need switches but with that keyboard hack you at least have 100 spots to use those switches! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Schwinn Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 I've decided to make the cockpit a bit wider to use the seat I have. My wife pointed out it doesn't have to be 100% accurate dimensions. I hate it when she is right lol =)
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Well you could make an authentic ejection seat replica but it would probably be authentically uncomfortable too! Go with what feels right it will probably be a comfy seat for long flights! Wifes are always right to some degree I guess............ just don't tell her I said that lol! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Schwinn Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 My bro came through and got me this Semi Truck seat for free =) We loves him atm =) The best part is it has a flat base for mounting. I will definitely have to cut it shorter because it sits to high =)
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Very Cool! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
stelios2000 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 awesome.......... can you please tell me the length of the collective stick (the visible side) not the whole length thanks
Schwinn Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 My buddy just offered me a second SPH-5 helmit (has a small crack) for free =) Having two will be nice for the apache cockpit. I cut the brackets on the seat shorter and welded them back into place update with pics soon.
Schwinn Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 awesome.......... can you please tell me the length of the collective stick (the visible side) not the whole length thanks I will measure it once I get home. Do you want it in metric or imperial?
Schwinn Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 awesome.......... can you please tell me the length of the collective stick (the visible side) not the whole length thanks 23 inches or 584 mm at the corrected length. As it sits now the collective is 16 inches or 406mm but it doesn't reach the front console like it should.
Schwinn Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) A few small updates. I cut the base to the seat shorter and welded it back on so the seat would sit lower. Close up of the bottom brace reversed and ready for bolting =) big thanks to my dad for digging out his arc welder and his 40 year old welding rods lol. His words to me were..."I am not sure this is gonna work anymore." I am glad they did. Stellios this is the gap I am refering too in my last post to you. Edited July 16, 2009 by Schwinn Spelling 1
